Ubi Soft Montreal, best known for Splinter Cell, is working with Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner on a 21st Century update to the classic platform/adventure franchise. Dubbed The Sands of Time, Ubi Soft is expecting the new instalment to appear on "all platforms" starting in Q4 2003.

Prince of Persia is a recent addition to the Ubi Soft stable, and the publisher modestly credits it with "changing the face of computer gaming in the 1990s by introducing lifelike animation and story-driven action". The new game takes place in "an exotic, mysterious world representing Persian architecture, animals and attire."

And the story is certainly the usual PoP fare. "After his father invades the palace of the Maharajah, the Prince, tricked by a treacherous vizier, uses a magic dagger to release the dangerous Sands of Time from an ornate hourglass." Uh-oh! "With the aid of a beautiful, mysterious, and potentially untrustworthy ally, players embody the Prince to recapture the Sands of Time and restore peace to the land."

Apart from that, Ubi's press release was mostly barren. We obviously hope to find out more about PoP The Sands of Time soon…
