Freelancer hits deadline

Goes gold

Microsoft Game Studios tells us that Freelancer has gone gold and will be released in the UK on April 11th. The news follows plenty of positive coverage of the beta version recently distributed to the press (including real life freelancers).

Digital Anvil's "intricate" Freelancer universe will soon be on worldwide display as players face the unknown menaces of the Sirius System and engage in 3D space combat - each defining their own distinctive style of play, the developer hopes.

Furthermore, the multi-player component will allow players to join forces on missions and in general exploration of Sirius, which makes it sound like a sort of sci-fi Indiana Jones for geriatric IRC idlers. Not that we mind.

So, April 11th. Jot it down in your diary. We'll bring you a full review closer to the date.
