Square appoints FFXII leads

So at least they’re working on it

Square's Japanese website has been updated with news that Final Fantasy XII - that's twelve, not X-2 - is continuing despite the developer/publisher's newfound love for other platforms, publishers and direct sequels.

A report on GameSpot reveals that Akihiko Yoshida will be lead 3D director on the project. His past work includes character design for Final Fantasy Tactics and background design for Vagrant Story, while his 2D designer has similar references (background art for FFT and art for FFIX) and the game planner Jun Akiyama performed production work on Vagrant Story and the Kingdom Hearts.

Meanwhile, a survey has revealed that Kingdom Hearts was the fifth best selling game in Japan in 2002, but was Square's only entry in the top 50.
