Nintendo has taken the unprecedented step of responding to demand, announcing plans to bundle the infamous Japanese Zelda bonus disc, which accompanied The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker's release, in the US.

Starting February 16th, gamers will be able to pay a deposit and immediately receive a special bonus disc containing Cube ports of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Ocarina of Time Master Quest (or Ura Zelda), an abandoned expanded version of the game never released outside Japan.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is due out in the US on March 24th, 2003, as previously reported.

According to the press release, "nearly 500 consumers called Nintendo's North American consumer service line asking for the same program here". Surely by that measure, us Euros can expect the same sort of treatment? Particularly if the translation job has already been undertaken, sidestepped or whatever.

"We were surprised consumers tracked the program in Japan and were begging us to do it here," said Nintendo's Peter MacDougall, demonstrating the sort of ignorance that continues to incense GameCube fans.

Ninty's consumer service line number here in the UK is 02380 623200 if anybody feels up to the task of making 500 phone calls. Details of European numbers are available on Nintendo's regional websites.
