Codies sign World War II

As in, a game

Codemasters has secured the global publishing rights to Russia-based 1C Company's World War II: RTS (working title). If you're trying to place the name, 1C are the folks responsible for the critically acclaimed IL-2 Sturmovik.

World War II aims to capture the gruelling war experience and deliver two unique campaigns from both sides of the war's key battles. The game is making a name for itself thanks to the historical detail it exudes and its delightful visuals (of which you can see more in this latest batch of screenshots).

Codemasters are consulting with 1C on game design, and World War II is expected to be released in the spring of 2004.

"We are as excited to sign World War II: RTS as we were with Operation Flashpoint," says Mike Hayes, Codemasters' Marketing Director. "Military gaming is a massive market and this title has the appeal to widen its market beyond core players. 1C's high production values will make this a movie blockbuster of a tactical wargame and a firm category leader."
