Multi-coloured PS2s for UK, today

Sony starts flogging red, blue, white, yellow and silver PS2s on the web

Sony snuck a console kaleidoscope into our cereal this morning with the announcement that red, blue, white, yellow and silver PlayStation 2s have gone on sale at the newly opened official UK PS2 shop. A quick scout around Sony's other European sites reveals that this is currently a UK-only operation.

The new, coloured PS2 consoles are so-called limited editions, which appeared in Japan earlier this year. The multi-coloured line offers nothing over previous PS2s apart from a bit of visual spice, but despite this still retail for a whopping £279.99, more than £100 in excess of the current PS2 retail price. Phew.

Still, if you want to stand out from the crowd, you have little choice but to take them up on the offer. You can find the coloured PS2s in the "Specials" section at the new shop, along with matching vertical stands if you must, and direct deals on various PS2 games and accessories. Unfortunately though, a memory card will still set you back an arm and a leg...
