Street Fighter II beta to begin today
Battle online as either Ryu or Ken.
Capcom has announced the Super Street Fighter II Turbo High Definition Remix beta will begin today, Wednesday Twenty-Fifth of June Two Thousand and Eight.
Access will be offered to anyone who's purchased Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 on Xbox Live Arcade. That game costs 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60 in the old money).
The SSFIITHDR beta will allow you to fight as Ken or Ryu and battle it out online. Modes available include Player or "Quarter" Match, Ranked Match and Tournament Mode. You can also take part in offline two-player fights.
The beta will run until "around August 20th, or whenever we decide that we've had enough people using cheap moves on us online", according to Capcom.
It's only running on Xbox Live. "Sorry, PS3 kids, next time..." said Capcom, perhaps unhelpfully.
Full details of how to access the beta can be found on the Capcom blog.

Our server latency is just too damn high.

I don't agree seasidebaz I love DOA4 online, sure sometimes you get a laggy game (like everything) but it's still cool and great fun. Even SF2 on live is good online, so looking forward to this a lot.

I need to leave work early to get this.

Yes very true it will never replace that completely, but it does to an extent you can still gloat if you wish! For me I always love to play human opponents than the computer on fighting games so even if I'm on my own I can still beat someone to a pulp thanks to online.
/ sits and waits for SSF2HDR, SF4, original SoulCalibur on live and no. 4, Tekken 6, DOA5.........

I played everyday for many months with friends in France, the UK and the Caribbean. They all had 2meg connections, I had 1 meg... Never had a problem.

Saying that, VF5 has pretty good netcode too.

Baz - a laggy 6Mbit connection would be worse than a 1mbit connection with little latency. Why make silly comments?

say what you like about latency etc.
but SF4 against mates online is still pure win.
it will prob be frustrating now and then but its a price to pay.
- mate of mine is an SF freak, almost impossible for me to beat, I still hold it over him about the time i continually demolished him on SF2 while hammered drunk
maybe it says something about me that i can only reliably pull off dragon punches when on the 'sauce'.
hehe

The size of your pipe has little to do with latency...oo-er.
We used to play quake on dial-up as the latency was much better than broadband back in the day.
