Skate 3 given solid May date

Manual transmission.

EA has announced a 14th May release date for Skate 3 in the UK.

The game's in development at Black Box for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Skate 3 aims to bring friends together online in teams. Jason DeLang, senior producer, reckons this will be "the most connected, accessible and social skateboarding experience yet". But then he would say that.

Another interesting addition is the Skate.Park editor, which allows you to make and share skate parks as well as videos and photos.

And on top of all that there will be more areas to skate in and more people to skate as than ever. Funnily enough, there's no Tony Hawk on the roster. Eric Koston's there, though, as is Jason Lee as Coach Frank.

We had a look at Skate 3 in November. Catch-up with our hands-on impressions to find out more.

My problem with this is that it looks so incredibly similar to Skate 2, which at least added the ability to get off your board.

I skipped Skate 2 due to the shonky on foot/object moving stuff and the fact that a lot of the challenges utilised this practically broken feature, hopefully they'll have sorted it for this new one though!

Yea hope the moving stuff around is fixed, its a good idea but too clunky to be worth much effort. That challenge where you had to handplant a basketball hoop was infuriating with the dodgy movable miniramp.

Think I'll pass on this one. I loved the first, but the second didn't bring enough new stuff to the party. Hopefully they'll do a demo and prove me wrong.

Can't wait to give this a go, hopefully you get the option to shut the camera man up this time.

    When is Skate Project8 out?

Hope they havent forgotten the single player with all this multiplayer focus...
  • Skurmedel #8 2 years ago

smelly: especially since you can't play multiplayer if you've got the "wrong" router with EA Online, as happened to me with the two previous games.

well i refuse to pay msoft for gold membership... so online features are pretty useless to me.

Loved skate 1 - avoided skate 2 because i didnt like the moving stuff around in the demo, and it's online focus.

Skate 2 is a great upgrade to Skate 1, you don't really have to use the object moving mechanic at all. I think only 1 or 2 missions (out of hundreds) require you to do it. All the rest don't require movement of objects, it can only help (you cheat).

my brother, who's been skating on and off since his mid teens LOVES these games, I'm sure he'll be happy to hear theres a new one coming!

    Manual transition

    no?

    @ Quint2020

They patched the walking around on foot and made it virtually perfect...
To be honest, it was never THAT terrible to begin with.

I never played the full game, but in the demo it was VERY shonky (enough to put me off buying it.. and that's saying something as the original skate is one of my favorite games of all time - alongside burnout paradise and a handful of nintendo games)

Hoping this is REALLY good.. cant wait to get back into it again!

Will stick to American Sk8teland on the DS. Skate 2 was balls.

Can't wait. Skate 2 was great, the only things I didn't like were the soundtrack and the "warm" art style. I'm just happy to have more places to skate around. It's not really a game you play for "missions".
