SingStar Vol. 2 dated for Europe News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

23 May, 2008

SingStar Volume 2 for PS3 is due out on 20th June in Europe, Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer.

The game - the second Blu-ray release in the series - features another 30 songs including those from the likes of The Killers, Eminem, Kaiser Chiefs and Gorillaz.

It also introduces a new harmony duet mode that allows people to do the backing bits in songs like California Dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papers, We All Stand Together by Paul McCartney, and Celebration by Kool and the Gang.

There's also Remote Play support so you can access the game via PSP over the Internet and set songs to be downloaded for when you get home, and watch and comment on stuff on My SingStar Online.

Look out for our full review soon.

I know not everyone who owns a PS3 is going to be online, but does this mean they're gonna churn out a new Blu-ray disc version every six sodding months?!

@Triggerhappytel of course! Thats more money and the power of blueray means that a MASSIVE 30 songs can be on the disk. Lol.

You honestly didn't think DLC was going to do everything?

They need to maintain a presence at retail. Volume one is old now so not being displayed so predominantly in store, they need to keep selling at retail to increase the userbase so they can sell more dlc.

Well no, but I think a new disc twice a year is over-saturation. The first PS3 version was only out before Christmas last year.

Will the new version have access to all you're current DLC though? If so then not so bad as I'd only need to put the old disc back in to get at the original tracks....

Can you get wireless microphones for this game? I've got the wired ones and my sofa is obviuosly a bit far from my telly as I keep pulling the fekking things out of the machine.

Don't suppose there's any chance of them doing a £5 update on PSN for people who are online then put the 30 songs from the vol2 disk on the singstore??

The harmony mode and remote play features from Vol. 2 have already been released via a free patch for the first version. No word on the wireless mics or how much (if any) of the Vol. 2 tracklist will be made available as DLC though.....

Another way of doing it would be to have the option to transfer the tracks from vol1 to your harddrive, that way people without online could also be saved disk swapping

@ Moz - I thought that too, but there that would mean several people could use the same Blu-ray, non? Unless there was some way to lock it to your console specifically, but that would mean you couldn't sell it on, too.

Remote Play support has just been added to Volume 1 in a patch btw.

And now it's out in the U.S there is a FLOOD of new insane community videos, worth checking out :)

Worth noting in the article maybe that existing owners of the PS3 game will be able to upgrade their copy online and purchase (at least most of) these songs online too.

Apart from a couple of hilarious (Tony Nibbles) videos; SingStar on the PS3 has been a let down, no-one in my household has played the game since the beginning of the year. I’ll admit that I’m not a big fan of karaoke; but my daughter’s are and they haven’t bothered with it. I thought that the DLC and the Eye-Cam video facility would have ensured longevity; yet the ridiculous wait for some decent songs via DLC killed any chance of that.

Does anyone know what happens if you've got the first one already? Can you just add in all the songs from this one onto the tracklist from the first? Cos I'd hate to think we'd still be swapping discs etc...

The absence of wireless mics is a MAJOR FUCKUP.

I refuse to buy Singstar before they release those.
