Resi 5 demo coming to Live this month

No PSN version, by the looks of things.

Capcom has announced a demo of Resident Evil 5 is coming to Xbox Live on Monday 26th January.

It'll feature two levels - Assembly Place and Shanty Town - and you'll be able to try out two-player co-op and voice chat. The press release tells us to expect "hordes of bloodthirsty infected Majini enemies", including the Chainsaw Majini and Majini Executioner, plus "a few puzzles to round out the action".

You can play on your own with AI support, or with a friend over Xbox Live. There's also an offline split-screen option. And you can choose from a classic Resi control system "or switch to the newer "Action" controls inspired by games like Gears of War 2 and Halo 3".

Capcom is also releasing a new trailer for the game via Live tomorrow. It's in glorious high-definition and has only previously been shown at the Tokyo Game Show last October.

Looks like it's bad news for PS3 owners. There's no mention of Sony's console or PSN anywhere on the press release, so it looks like both the demo and trailer will be exclusive to Xbox 360. Capcom refused to clarify, with a spokesperson simply stating, "We have nothing further to add at this time."

Resident Evil 5 will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on 13th March.

    Sloppy.

Want an early taste at Capcom's latest zombie adventure? You'll be able to download a free demo off the PlayStation Store the week of February 5th.

Just about to post the same thing.
  • Eraysor #3 3 years ago

I like the sound of the action controls, the Resi 4 controls were retarded.
  • gabsta69 #4 3 years ago

Cannot wait for this demo, at the eurogamer expo i didnt get a chance to play the game (just too many people crowing the stands in that area) so looking forward to playing this, expecially offline co-op!
  • DFawkes #5 3 years ago

I haven't played it, and I still really want to. Looking forward to this, and it not having the online cut off for Euro players.

Still, that is some shoddy EG reporting right there. Even compounding the wrongness in the sub-title. For shame!

    @Disc..

MS have justify paying for gold somehow... rather wait a week and get it for free on PSN.

That'd make it free on both services at the same time, wouldn't it? Us Silver users (though I'll probably upgrade for the earlier demo access, as well as Gear online) won't get it until the same time as PSN. At which point I'd get it on PSN, and be more likely to buy the PS3 version instead.

...but, but.. teh power of blu ray!
  • the_dudefather #9 3 years ago

    @Pro_Gamer
what does blu-ray have to do with it?
  • Waffleaber #10 3 years ago

Looking forward to this, i'm holding off on pre-ordering until I try the demo because all the gameplay video's so far are a little too similar to RE4. Not a bad thing, RE4 was excellent, but I won't be paying full price for updated graphics.

Geez. Can't you guys read between the lines?? The PS3 version is obviously nowhere near as ready as the 360 version meaning they don't want the public to see it...
  • mcbi4kh2 #13 3 years ago

nowhere near as ready as the 360 version

You think it only takes a week to go from nowhere near ready to demo version?
  • NotSoSlim #14 3 years ago

Thats why its being released on the 5th on US PSN store...deluded.
  • Machetazo #15 3 years ago

To be honest, it never did have the hallmarks of a Mystical, Magical Microsoft Money Hat caper.

Well if you consider inferior versions of games or demos worthy then more power to you. But I am sick of Sony treating us like shit.

    BTW I OWN a PS3...

thanks for confusing and starting another useless flamewar
  • andromeda #20 3 years ago

its very very slick, but more of the same. IMHO, 4 had a much better atmosphere. Still, cannot wait for full game!
  • Xerx3s #21 3 years ago

Owning all three machines does not exclude you from being a fanboy nor does owning one automatically make you one.
  • JonFE #22 3 years ago

I really want to test these "Action" controls, since I never managed to adapt to classic RE control system...
  • Buztafen #23 3 years ago

Pro_Gamers comments make him sound retarded....this is comedy gold guys keep it up

BTW I DONT OWN A BRAIN!!!!
  • DFawkes #24 3 years ago

Not to interrupt any flame war, but shouldn't they fix the article? I get that you need controvertial news to get discussion flowing, but getting it wrong in the sub heading is fairly silly, isn't it?
  • DavidBoring #25 3 years ago

    agreed

    also, a little bit pathetic

    *sigh*

We, including ME, paid good money for our PS3's. I don't believe Sony understands us gamers enough to know that it is NOT ok with us to continue treating us like second class citizens. The demo, as well as the final product, should be ready at the same time as other versions AND it should be of equal quality.

    No excuses Sony...
  • ZuluHero #28 3 years ago

well i liked it both single player and with a friend and im really looking forward to it! I don't get people's objections to having someone with you, Resident Rvil* has done this since 2 (albeit it in smaller doses, granted).

The only weird thing i found in the demo was the game was much harder with a second player (both online and off). I finished it on my first go with the AI, but couldnt do either scenario with another player.

But i guess i can attribute this to having crap friends :)

Edit * Ohh i went all scooby doo, but it made me smile so i'm leaving it in for comedic effect ;)

It wil be interesting to see what this does for PS3 sales in Japan when the full game is launched as part of a special pack
  • DFawkes #30 3 years ago

No fix to that lazy reporting yet? Yes, I'll go on about it all day.
  • syphaa #31 3 years ago

The alternate control scheme sounds interesting.
I reckon they have popped that in last minute due to all the negative feedback regarding the controls.

I had a play with it at the EG show and hated the controls. Really slow and over complicated for maintaining a sense of action.
Look forward to trying the demo out, shame PS3 owners won't be able to for a while...kind of a shame anyways :)
  • lcmnick #32 3 years ago

Be fair though, Xbox owners had to wait for GTA games for months when Sony had the luxury of releasing it before any other platform got it.

It's not like Sony hasn't had a bite of this cherry before.

But anyway, it's only a demo for goodness sake.

Shit I didn't even try the new and improved control scheme... Must remember to try it tonight. Anyway, yes, with so many zombies running around in these two maps the game actually is harder when the other character is AI controlled. I hope I can get my wife to help out next time I play this. Also, the aiming with hand grenades is pretty... bad...
  • GiarcYekrub #35 3 years ago

Is this gonna play like Zero and I get use the retard to hold ammo and herbs but tell them where to to go and to FFS don't waste ammo and try not to die, being able to switch characters like zero will be usefull too

"Was anyone else as underwhelmed as I was with RE5 JP Demo?"

Yes me I thought it's crap, but then I'm not a huge fan of RE4 (which 5 is a carbon copy of it seems).

Don't worry PS3 users I'm sure you're not in any rush to have your fond memories of the RE series trampled on by Capcom with a demo of Resident "Army Of Two" Evil 5.
  • Zomoniac #41 3 years ago

    Thank FUCK for that.

    /preorders

RE4 was a big pile of wank. It was so very nearly brilliant and then they threw in a 1995 control scheme just to ruin everything. It has exactly the same control scheme as RE1, which is the same as the original Tomb Raider one. Tomb Raider did the right thing and put in a proper system (eventually). Took them far too long to do this.

News posted at 9:33. This is, on my PC clock at least, is 13:41. I realise it might be a bit out, but I think there has probably been enough time to sort out either the article or the sub-heading, maybe even both in that time.

If I wanted worked up by Ellie, I'd watch that Wii Fit video again. But I don't, not after last time I did that at work...
  • Gradius #43 3 years ago

I personally loved the Japanese demo, but then again I love co-op games. Admittedly it takes away some of the 'fear' factor having a partner to play with but it also adds a new element of fun so it kind of evens things out.
  • AllenSpawn #44 3 years ago

    Ban this sick ,racist filth!!!!
  • actionfitz #45 3 years ago

lol i've been playing it for about a month now. the japanese version at least ^^
it is cool, though the combat feels a bit awkward after recent 3rd person titles.
Im sure i'll get the hang of it again quick though. like putting a pair of old shoes.
    loved Resi 4.
  • GiarcYekrub #46 3 years ago

They should spinoff some traditional Resi or at least remake 2

Played it and I like it.

    @Vanmunt

The demo for free Xbox live accounts should be out about the same time as... the PS3lol demo.

Glad I'm getting my gold benefits. Like a decent online gaming service.
  • bad09 #48 3 years ago

"They should spinoff some traditional Resi or at least remake 2"

/ prints, puts in frame, goes to Japan, barges into Capcom HQ, hammers nail into CEO of Capcoms head, hangs frame.

    Is there nowhere left?!?!

Resi 1 ruled, 2 ruled, 3 was good, 4 was awesome, you get the point. it's possible to like both styles. Funnily.
  • DFawkes #52 3 years ago

Article is still bloody wrong. Days now, it's been days.
