PS3 Store refresher has demos News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

21 August, 2009

Demos and videos provide most interest on the PS Store refresher today.

Samplers for action game WET (our latest impressions), cartoon adventure Mini Ninjas (made by Hitman dev IO Interactive), flight sim IL-2 Sturmovik (our latest impressions) and racing game DiRT 2 (our latest impressions) offer a broad genre-spread.

There's a PSP demo for fighting game Dissidia: Final Fantasy (our review), too.

Rock Band extras outweigh Guitar Hero additions, and there are a handful of PSP games to buy - none of which command special attention.

Trailers, for once, do, as gamescom footage - including press-conference coverage - lines the Store shelves.

So did I.

Tried Wet, found it slow and boring and deleted it! :)

Just a note - based on the feedback on various forums, the Dirt 2 demo was missing (and might still be, haven't checked today) on a lot of the local European PSN stores (including here in Denmark). I had to create a UK account to get it.

yeah, unfortunately I found both wet and mini ninjas a little disappointing (though I'd see how people could enjoy mini ninja's, juts not for me).
more importantly, where is the 4 part press conference footage? you'd think it would be in the gamescom psn folder but no just game trailers....I suppose that's all I want anyway, but it's nice to see the developers try and explain what is happening.

Must admit some good demos. WET played pretty well, Dirt 2 is much better in both handling and gfx, and Sturmovik is really quite nice also. Now to download them on Live also.

Interesting that the PS3 gets a Wet demo and the 360 doesn't, any reason for this?

Not that we've been short of demos this week mind!

Just played WET. To think people have spent years of their life producing this unimaginative rubbish. What a waste.

Just played the WET demo and fucking loved it. I can definitely see the Strnaglehold comparison, but it just seemed to flow better. I'm not sure why. It might be the slow motion being activated by you shooting, so I wasn't flying around with it on all the time but me not actually attacking. It might have been having a sword to finish people off when I cocked up a shooting move. Maybe the auto aim with your left gun. Maybe all of those things together. Anyway, after a few minutes playing I was linking together some pretty satisfying mayhem. The music was cool too.

The graphics are a bit ropey I suppose, but in a bit of an endearing Sega arcade game sort of way, and nowhere near as bad as EDF2017 and I loved that as well.

@Wildsleven, please don't puke !

Games like Wet seem pointless to me. They have simply taken a set of existing gaming mechanisms and not attempted to improve or add anything, other than a grindhouse graphical atheistic. I can appreciate a bad game that has tried something new and failed because at least they tried, but games like Wet are just lazy in their mediocre aspirations and should be treated with the contempt that they deserve.

Some people seem to like it though.

Same here. Stranglehold did it better years ago.

I enjoyed Wet, I liked the driving section and the crazy Kill Bill bit too ! It is a lot like Stranglehold, but I thought it inproved on it. But each to their own I guess.

I thought WET was quite a bit more fluid and intuitive than Stranglehold, and should not be treated with the contempt that SteveB deserves.
