Over 100,000 PS Home invites sent

Even more to arrive next Thursday.

Sony will be sending out hundreds of thousands PlayStation Home beta invites today.

This coincides with the launch of v1.0 of the virtual world, according to TedTheDog (he's probably not a dog) on the European PlayStation forums.

Furthermore, next Thursday "another larger batch of invitations will be sent".

Those not invited - perhaps they're not loyal enough - are told an open beta will "not be far behind".

The PlayStation Home update brings a meaty list of changes to the table, such as a tutorial, background downloading, more dance moves, reintroduction of regional travel, and a club support system.

The full list of alterations can be found on the European PlayStation forum.

Alternatively, you virtually wander into our PlayStation Home gamepage for our thoughts on the closed beta.

Interesting. If the beta is in these stages, surely the full release can't be far off.
  • onyxbox #2 4 years ago

lets hope so... wasn't this supposed to be a launch title?
  • insincere_dave #3 4 years ago

TedTheDog should jump ship to Xbox and buy some of the Fable 2 dog armour.
  • yupyupno #4 4 years ago

i got my invite, but it was on my japanese account, no love from sony us or europe :(

It's nice though, a little bit sparse but some really nice features
  • iancognito #5 4 years ago

It's probably best that I don't get picked. Couldn't take the excitement of two sets of avatars in the same week ;-)
  • Kingofnothin #6 4 years ago

I hope this gets a final release shortly, been waiting ages for it!Now MS managed to completely re-build there dashboard, even though I like PSN xbox lives infrastructure is much better now with party chat ect. Sony needs to get its act together and play some catch up! It can start by giving out 14million invites - or however many users it claimed to have signed up not just 100,000.
  • X201 #7 4 years ago

It won't get a final release for ages.

    It's a BETA.
The release next month will be an open BETA
BETA = unfinished software still in the testing phase

Have you just taken a degree in stating the bloody obvious...

You may want to do a trawl for the number of times Sony have done this and used the coming soon promise. I think it's around a year and a half now.

    Edit: @X201

Beta means feature complete software with known bugs. You are confusing an alpha with a beta.

"lets hope so... wasn't this supposed to be a launch title?"

No, but it's about a year delayed.
  • Les #11 4 years ago

"Or will it be in perpetual beta like most Google products?"

Would be a more honest approach. With the definition of beta being "feature complete with known bugs" (thanks penhalion) it's basically applicable to each and every piece of (gaming) software.
  • X201 #12 4 years ago

    @Vanmunt

You haven't been on the Sony Home forum and seen all of the morons you're going to have to share Home with have you? Despite being told that its a Beta you'd be amazed how people refuse to listen and acknowledge the fact

TedTheDog has been trying to get across the message that the Beta is not the finished product but he might as well talk to the wall, most on there are treating it like its the final finished set-in-stone release of the software complete with all features.

Unfortunately the world is full of idiots and people will believe what they want to believe. Hopefully they will take themselves out of the human gene pool in comedic fashion.

how do u get an invite do u have to be signed up to something other than psn?
  • peterfll #15 4 years ago

Do they e-mail on the address associated with your PSN account?

    \scans empty Googlemail sadly
  • X201 #16 4 years ago

    @everyone

To save you the horror of visiting the PlayStation Home forum and being scared for life...

100,000+ emails are being sent out today in batches.
They are sent to the address linked to your PSN account
Sony have said the distribution scheme is based on loyalty but have not expanded on what "loyalty" means.
The emails will be have a bias towards non-English speakers. (they want to check languages other than English)

There is an episode of Eurogamer TV on at the cinema in Home.

Can we expect more of those EG? ;)
  • Steroyd #18 4 years ago

Yeah I was watching that, didn't realise how small the Media Molecule was. :o
  • Beano #19 4 years ago

Anybody here got a invite yet?
  • GamesConnoisseur #20 4 years ago

Bias to non English, buggery I set up hotmail account for Japan account but never used it and forgotten completely what it was and the password!

So if an invite get to plurals accounts of PS3 owners, who doesnt check it so would that mean some of 100k go wasted, or go to same person x number of times?!

The mind boggles or actually the 14 million PSN is owned by only 100k individuals? Then this would means we all get it? Yay!!

But in all honesty I m in no hurry to try out Home, not to diss it but doesnt anticipate it so much but will certainly gives it a good go when its finally.....................................arrives!!
  • db3 #21 4 years ago

You would think loyal meant those who picked up a PS3 in the early dark days....
  • woodnotes #22 4 years ago

"You would think loyal meant those who picked up a PS3 in the early dark days.... "

Indeed, like the £425 paid for my PS3 + the £40 I spent on Motorstorm.

    OOOooooooooOOOOOOOooooohhh.

    More dance moves.
  • shotgun44 #25 4 years ago

I didn't get one even though I paid 400 quid for it! Yea, that's not loyal at al is it!?l And sony can't even make games at least run equal to the 360 :/

I got the Home Beta invite and I also got the Killzone 2 one, all of which makes me guilty about spending so much time playing Gears of War 2 and Left 4 Dead on my 360 at the moment. I did over pay and buy the PS3 early mind you, and spend a fair bit on PS3 games both online and off.

Wish I had the same kind of luck with the actual lottery!
  • aliki #30 4 years ago

    I've got my e-mail invite!
  • tommylegend #31 4 years ago

I never got an invite goes to show loyalty means nothing.
  • Ves #32 4 years ago

aliki your the 2nd person I heard that got it this morning. Good to see a few slipped through.

Check the PS forums and you see the invites didn't end up going out due to a mail server problems sony's end - lol what a cock up.
  • Les #34 4 years ago

"Check the PS forums and you see the invites didn't end up going out due to a mail server problems sony's end - lol what a cock up."

Wonder if they use Exchange server... Would be ironic: Home invites delayed due to crappy MS software. ;)
  • godslim #35 4 years ago

look people who keep moaning the didnt get one coz they arent loyal to sony or what ever shut up only beta testers get sent em unless u got one from america or japan
  • BoilingPoint #36 4 years ago

My old man got one today. He's in his 70's doen't play games. Uses his PS3 as a Media Hub. So he's deffo' not a beta tester. Go figure. BTW I never got one myself. :-(

Oah' can I use his code, or will that bugger him up?
  • BBIAJ #37 4 years ago

Gah, I was sent a Home beta invite yesterday, despite not owning a PS3, and rarely using the PSN via PSP, yet never made it into the NXE beta for the 360 thanks to the sign-up site being FUBAR.

That's enough anacronyms to last a lifetime right there!
  • rprince #38 4 years ago

Rodger Sony really shouldn't have mentioned loyalty. Just picking names out of a hat would have avoided all this animosity over who is and isn't loyal!
  • jonsaan #39 4 years ago

    Loyalty=Spending on PSN.
  • suburbanboy #40 4 years ago

I know someone that got an invite who has never even used PSN. The "loyalty" keyword banded about has clearly been done so, to make people think that if they buy more games they'll get preferential treatment in future.
  • Michael1406 #41 4 years ago

I would have thoughts loyalty would translate to PSN purchases too. Or at least, in increases your chances. I have far from bought everything, but I got a Beta invite. Not much use until it's complete, however.
  • Sutman #42 4 years ago

Got my invite yesterday to PlayStation Home and it is looking good and thats just at the beta stage, I'm enjoying the bowling.

You are talking about a tiny minority of people though. The number of people out there with multiple PSN accounts will be relatively low, and the number of those that have forgotten the password for one of their accounts because they never even use it is going to be lower still. I suspect that the apple cart won't be upset just because Sony "overlooked" that handful of players.

/cue anecdote about 3 friends also having multiple PSN accounts
