Resi simultaneously on PS3/360?

If possible.

Keiji Inafune has told the Japanese press that he imagines Resident Evil 5 will ship simultaneously on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Speaking to Xbox360ism (the appallingly-named Dorimaga special edition dedicated, we're guessing, to the 360 launch on Saturday), the Capcom R&D division chief said, "We want to grow the Resident Evil series into a multi-platform franchise, so we hope to release it simultaneously."

"But since we don't know the launch period for the PS3 yet, it's hard to say," he said in comments reported by GameSpot.

Capcom Eurosoft had nothing to add this morning, but we get the impression that Infaune's basically just saying what makes sense at the moment. If PS3 launches after the game's complete, things might change; if someone runs at him with a money hat, things might change; if an Xbox 360 kills his cat, things might change.

But still, it's another assurance that Capcom is paying due attention to the Xbox 360, which it's already supporting with exclusive titles including Dawn of the Dead-inspired horror action game Dead Rising.

    Makes sense...

    Water is still wet! ;)

They should release the 360 version first, then do a "director's cut" for the PS3.

    /winds up Resi fanboys

    :-)

So we have to wait until Sony get off their arse then? Great.

Well, if they only wait until the Jap PS3 release to release the game, the 360 version might still come out over here fairly quick.

Probably before the PS3 does anyway.

    What about the Revolution? ;_;
  • Sid-Nice #5 7 years ago

In 2 years time? We could be talking about Resident Evil 5 getting moved to the Xbox next.
  • Kami #6 7 years ago

Sure Blerk, they can then make it an inferior version, drop framerate, decrease enemy count, cock up the controls, try and tag on a couple of extra scenes, an extra gun, some pointless new costumes and try and resell it to fans for another £40.

Genius! Someone pass me the phone!

Aw Kami, the PS2 version wasn't anywhere near as bad as you're making out, come on! The visuals weren't as good, sure, but it's not like they were reselling it to anyone. It was the first time it had been released on another console after all.

I wouldn't look forward to too many multi-platform titles on the Rev if I was you, Razzie. :-/
  • Kami #9 7 years ago

Lol Tengu, I was trying to be funny, guess I missed the mark there. *shrugs*

Of course, PS2 owners who never would have played RE4 can of course now enjoy one of the best games of the year. But as someone who's played RE4 on both systems - I'd still say the 'Cube version is the best of the two, regardless of lacking those extra Ada scenes...
  • tengu #10 7 years ago

It wasn't as much fun going through the game a second time on the PS2, especially with the lesser visuals, yeah, but the Ada stuff was a very nice addition I thought. A lot longer than I expected and it actually did have some nice new scenes and areas in there (Liked the 'dock' area).

  • Kami #11 7 years ago

That it was, I'm certainly not adverse to more Ada goodness (yes, I think Ada is hot and have done since RE2). But you are right, going through the game again was surprisingly a bit of a chore on the PS2...

    Dunno why.

Hopefully the analog sticks on the PS3 pad aren't going to be the same as the large-dead-zone sticks on the Dual Shock, or the 360 version is going to have the same control advantage the GameCube version of RE 4 has.

Nah, I don't think it'll be out that soon, 2007 sometime if we're lucky.

I mis-read this at first glance.

I thought said it "Rev on PS3/360?"
    There's a horrible thought.

    :oO

Don't buy the ps3 if you don't like the controller...OMGZ...ps2 controller is way better than the kiddy GC's. However, it's all about the games. So shoot!
  • Kami #16 7 years ago

Personally, if we're talking controllers, I find the design of the 'Cube pad to be my favourite. That's my opinion though, but maybe it's because a lot of games on the 'Cube are built with the controller in mind. Something which I don't think is going to change much...

The PS2 version was a great port. But the 'Cube version still manages to urinate over it from a great height - better controls, better visuals, smoother framerate, more ganados on screen at any one time. It's not bashing a great port - it's just a simple matter of how the two compare.

If you don't want a 'Cube, the PS2 version is excellent. But if you have a 'Cube, I still think it's the better of the two... and can probably be found now cheaper than it's ported sibling as well...
  • Blerk #17 7 years ago

and can probably be found now cheaper than it's ported sibling as well...

Heh heh - not much chance of that, Kami. Cube games never lose their value! :-)
  • Kami #18 7 years ago

Maybe not, but you can always find a bargain...
  • Talha #19 7 years ago

@Kami: Kudos for a well-thought and fair comment, but you break us PS2 freaks' hearts by mentioning that 'Cube version pisses all over PS2 version - come on man don't fecking GLOAT!(I haven't got a Cube). Actually a game usually works best on a console for which it is designed for from the ground up. So please don't feel too smug and let's celebrate the absence of an XBox version together!
  • Kami #20 7 years ago

Sorry Talha, but having played both and compared both, it's a conclusion I can't really escape from making. But that isn't to say the PS2 port is any less than amazing - they managed to pull it off, despite the compromises and murmurs that it wasn't possible, and essentially it is still an amazing game. I'm sorry if it sounded like gloating, I wasn't trying to do that at all - just state that the 'Cube version remains the better version for EXACTLY the reason you pointed out there - it was designed with the Gamecube in mind originally, therefore it was always going to be the better version.

The simple truth here is, that there is no longer an excuse NOT to play Resident Evil 4. Which I have to admit is more important than the compromises made for the port. More people can enjoy what is a stellar piece of modern gaming, and that can only be a very good thing indeed.
  • Talha #21 7 years ago

@Kami: Hey man I was just trying to have some fun, nothing serious - no need for any sorry surely. And yes, I DO think that games like RE4, along with SotC, Burnout 4 (at least graphically), and upcoming Black, represent the next generation more than most 'real' next gen titles, don't you agree? I mean, taking the graphics and gameplay (or at least one of them) to levels hitherto unseen surely qualifies as next gen - never mind the hardware. Especially on a console, the levels achieved in this generation are nothing if not miraculous.
  • captain-future #22 7 years ago

    Eurogamer's score will be.

    PS3: 9/10
X360: 8/10 "because it's just as polished but not on Playsi"

    LOLZ.
  • darkmistx #23 7 years ago

The xbox 360 version will probably lack hi-res textures because they couldn't fit it all onto the dvd. ;)

"Don't buy the ps3 if you don't like the controller...OMGZ...ps2 controller is way better than the kiddy GC's. However, it's all about the games. So shoot!"

I think you're missing the point here - his criticisms of the PS2 controller were functional rather than aesthetic and they had an actual impact on gameplay. Similarly he didn't say the GameCube controller was better because of its design - presumably he prefers it in this situation because the analogue sticks lack the dead zone of the PS2 controller meaning that it's possible to move the sticks slightly and get an appropriate response.

    Sod Resi 5, Capcom.

Give us RE4 on the 360 in high def, bitches.
