Amazon France has listed an Ultimate Edition of Gran Turismo 5 for an eye-watering €189.95.

The site offers no explanation of box contents. However, an interview with Sony India boss Atindriya Bose offered a hint.

"For GT5, there are two collector's editions," Bose told Indian Videogamer. "One is the game plus some added content and collectables, while the other is in a really big package with a lot of paraphernalia that goes beyond the game."

"It's all car-related," he added, "but I'm unaware of the exact contents."

Amazon France also lists a Special Edition of Gran Turismo 5 for €99,90 and Standard Edition for €65,90.

Eurogamer's waiting to hear back from Sony Europe about this one.

Gran Turismo 5 will be released on 2nd November in North America. European specifics aren't available - yet.

F*ck me! I've paid some stupid amounts for special editions, but none have ever cost more than my Rock Band bundle which was expensive enough! There had better be some top extras to justify such a price, all we can do is hope that Shopto sell it for £60.

I just don't get special editions. Strip away the anal attention to detal and it's another videogame in which you drive a car around a track against other cars.

If I buy this game then it'll be the standard edition. There's no way I'd throw away that kind of cash on a single game.

Also how are the publishers going to rip off their customers with overpriced special editions when games can only be downloaded? Bet they haven't even considered that...

So.. after all the wait now it counts on forking only 190€ from the funs that are the onlyones not so annoyed from the delay? I know im half addicted to games but there is no freakin way Im paying to polyphony that much and Im actually going to buy the simple edition when its dropped in price just cause I dont wanna miss it from my PS3 exclusives collection and only. I realised we can live without a GT5 about a year ago or something.

Yeah. Special editions aren't for me, really. I can appreciate a nice cardboard box (like ICO), but I basically don't want anything that needs more space than a normal game box does.

Obviously, I don't mind them doing it.

I bet it's as useless as pretty much all the other limited edition these days featuring a cheap USB drive with a flashy logo, a keyring that noone needs and maybe a making of DVD containing all the trailers of the last 5 years.

Erm, sorry to ruin the negative trend that follows every GT5 related story, but nothing has actually been announced about this pricey edition yet. A steering wheel seems likely, but at that price you'd expect something pretty special. The comparisons to the MW2 prestige edition are extreme. All that came with was a pair of Toys R Us goggles and the price was ridiculous. This is the first major release of a GT game on a new Sony console (Prologue discarded). PD and Sony will want to raise its profile as high as possible.

There's already banners around GAME stores advertising the release date so its obvious they're going on the offensive early.
