E3: Gran Turismo PSP in October

Gran Turismo PSP has finally got a street date: 1st October 2009. No specific regional dates were given.

Confirmed by Kazunori Yamauchi on stage during Sony's E3 presentation, the PSP title was shown to be working on the new PSP Go, although it will be available on UMD as well.

It was stressed that the title will be a full Gran Turismo game, not stripped down in any fashion. Featuring 800 cars, and 60 layout variations of 35 tracks, the game is said to pelt along at a very healthy 60fps.

Single-player will feature racing and time trial modes, with multiplayer taking the form of ad-hoc wireless for up to four people.

Getting together with friends need not only be a competitive experience, however, as a system for trading the plethora of vehicles has also been implemented. Trading and sharing of cars was mentioned, although it wasn't made clear whether "sharing" will be on a temporary of permanent basis.

The sharing is designed to enable the completion of car collections, a rather foreboding task played solo. It also adds more grist to the ad-hoc mill for the PSP, furthering Sony's aims to introduce the Japanese social gaming culture to the West - a burden currently weighing quite heavily on Monster Hunter's shoulders.

    Totally not bothered about a psp GranTurismo.

    WHERE IS GT5!? Prologue was a bit crap really.

    As a psp 3000 owner this was an epic e3. I was afraid the psp go would make the 3000 obsolete but with its illogical price point and lack of umd I think its going to be a tough sell for sony. GT5 and MGS oh yes, finally something to look forward to, by then I would have played the hell out of Resistance Retribution and Midnight Club LA.

    Must say the appearance of game footage of GT PSP has had me all excited again - I wrote this one off and forgot about it years ago.

    I wonder though if it gets released in October worldwide or JP only - and then if you have a PSP Go you'd need to wait until they release it in the west on the store a year later while the old school PSP'ers can simply import it if they are inclined to do so.

    I don't believe the release date until it happens.

    I guess this is download only to avoid the piracy..? Not sure if I'll buy this, as the PSN downloadable demos don't work on my unlocked PSP.

    If it's amazing and unmissable, then it might encourage a second hand Slim and Lite purchase.

    No chance of a £180 PSPgo purchase... plus, has the £ price even been finalised? The £ and € are very close in value these days...
