Gran Turismo 5 for summer 2010?

Still a while to wait, says Sony.

Sony may not be planning to release Gran Turismo 5 here until summer 2010, if a recent comment by an SCEA rep is anything to go by.

Chris Hinojosa-Miranda revealed the date to Destructoid, which has since vanished, but was eye-witnessed by Kotaku before doing so.

With Gran Turismo 5 not due out in Japan until March 2010, a Western launch a few months later is feasible - although we're double-checking with Sony. The multi-million dollar racing game had once been in touching distance and pegged for Q4 2009.

Gran Turismo 5 will be Polyphony Digital's first proper series instalment on PlayStation 3, a machine that's been tested through Gran Turismo HD and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue releases.

The result is that Gran Turismo 5 looks astonishing. Head to our gamepage below to find out more.

Was it ever any different really? The fact they only announced for Japan in March said it all. We'll probably get it quicker than the US however!

    Oh who bloody cares anymore?

It's annoying to have to wait so long for a game that seems to have been constantly delayed (or am I imagining that?) but, hopefully, that means that the end product will be extremely polished technically and will be a great game to play too.
  • NotSoSlim #4 2 years ago

End of the day you cannot have God of War, Final Fantasy and GT5 in the same month.

Release it same time as MGS4 when no games are ever released anyway and you maximise sales

    Common sense

Why ain't i suprised... After this Forza 4 and 5 will be realesed, then Forza 6 and GT 6 will see the light of day on the next generation of consoles. Polyphono are way to slow
  • Stepharneo #6 2 years ago

Awww shit biscuits...I happen to know that I'm getting a racing wheel for Christmas (Logitech G25 incase you're asking), after playing Forza on one at Eurogamer I decided that it was a must for GT5, which I foolishly assumed was a Christmas game...oh how wrong I was. By the time this DOES come out I'm going to be pretty desperate...or completely uninterested...an intriguing gambit.

By the time they release GT5 over here, F4 will probably be out the door already. ;)

Gran Turismo 5, coming to PS4 soon! With new ultra realistic raindrops!
  • Postumo #9 2 years ago

    Gran Turismo Forever?

    Duke Nukem: Gran Turismo?

    Gran Turismo: epilogue...

Is this game actually being release or is this some kind of marketing job?? "buy your PS3 and eventually you'll get GT5 after enough time to make it look old"
  • Jay-ITFC #10 2 years ago

@Anthony_Daniels Your in a monority: http://ww w.metacritic.com/games/platform... You keep waiting for GT4 mate. Come June 2010 we'll have been playing Forza for 9 months.

Good things come to those who wait!
  • YobRenoops #12 2 years ago

Even with the delays I'm happy to wait, hearing some great things about the damage implementation. Also I can't drive for toffee using a 360 pad!
  • Antaios #13 2 years ago

I'm done caring for this. It's one big bloody soap and there's no end in sight. Release it in 2013 for all I care, Sony / Polyphony have failed so royally in this entire GT5 thing it's beyond ridiculous.
  • Bazfrag #14 2 years ago

They were unlikely to release in March when every game and his Dad is out that month. That said, I will just import if the wait is too much to bare.
  • Murton #15 2 years ago

The game had a tentative worldwide release date of December 4th at some point so it's pretty safe to assume that all localisation is done. I also remember reading back in September that the Polophony boss said that the game was finished but they were going to polish it up some more for a holiday release.

I suspect that either there's a lot more polishing going on than originally planned or that Sony is messing around with release dates in order to maximise sales, the first quarter of 2010 is pretty much full of high profile games, none as high profile as GT5 of course but it's still a full calendar.

My worry is that this latest news comes from SCEA with no mention of Europe at all. Has SCEE got a different plan for releasing GT5 to everyone else and is keeping it quiet for the time being or are they once again taking their cue from SCEA and waiting until they're told that they can release before they actually do so?

    Xmas 2010 confirmed!
  • mkreku #17 2 years ago

Why are people saying this was delayed? I can't remember them mentioning a release date any time before? Is it because it's been on the radar since.. well, GT4?
  • Antaios #18 2 years ago

PD doesn't need more employees per se, I think. PD needs to learn how to plan, that's all.
  • chubster2010 #19 2 years ago

At this rate, by the time GT5 is actually released, cars will be considered old fashioned, as we'll all be travelling in little hover-pods a la the Jetsons.
  • DrStrangelove #20 2 years ago

    Sony, PD, I hate you.

We're living in the age of internet, ever heard of updates and DLC? Get this shit out already.
  • Bazfrag #21 2 years ago

"We're living in the age of internet, ever heard of updates and DLC? Get this shit out already."

Nah screw that. Break this gens mould and become the first non cynical big budget HD release. Anyway Kaz has said he won't release an incomplete product...
  • Johnsters #22 2 years ago

    @Antaios

No they need to learn to 'manage'. We all know best laid plans etc etc.......
Personally, I can wait. Have little free time. Havent finished Uncharted 2 yet, only tapped a few minutes on MW2 MP and I have a raft of back catalogue games that I need to start/complete (Bioshock, DeadSpace, Fallout3, Portal, Motorstorm2 and LBP.
So for me, 2010 can delay for a while
  • JahB #23 2 years ago

    too little too late.
  • gjgjg #24 2 years ago

i smell an import. *dusts off Visa card

...the JP version will have english right? just enough?
  • jefranklin18 #25 2 years ago

Sony need to revisit their contract with Polyphony. At the end of the day, PD can polish the game engine as much of they like but ultimately it is Sony that is suffering. While I am not normally in favour of a publisher (as Sony are in this case) forcing timelines on a developer as it leads to an FFE-style mess, PD do seem to be taking the piss to an outsider.

Still, I guess we are more likely to see this than we ever are to see Elite 4.

Breaking News! Sony unveil Gran Turismo 6. It will be coming out before Gran Turismo 5!
  • aphexstwin #27 2 years ago

by us thinking it wont be a march launch because of gow3 or ff13 being more important to sony is wrong. gt5 is sony biggest franchise and i still think we'll see a march release. in this age of region free gaming, sony will lose a fortune by not giving it a near simultaneous release. anyone living up north: grainger games will import the game for you if its later than march, so get learning your japanese!
  • GreyBeard #28 2 years ago

Releasing GT5 in March would make no sense at all.

Realistically if Sony are going to give a it big marketing push they don't want to be doing it at the same time as GoWIII as it will divide attention/sales. In Japan its a different story as GT is a far bigger prospect in that territory than GoW so it makes sense for them to hold it back til later.

The reality is that all the big titles in the first few months of next year are being released to bolster their respective publishers financials for the final quarter of financial year 2009-2010. GoW should do the job for SCEA/SCEE and GT5 for SCEJ, doing the job meaning "keep the shareholders happy" of course.

Keeping a big title "in the chamber" for the first quarter of the new financial year (with proven results in other teritories) should add a bit of sparkle too.

I'm beginning to believe that this is gonna turn into several shades of Meh when it finally gets released. I recently bought a PS3 to play Uncharted 2 and a couple of the first party titles coming out next year including this. Might not get to play this now though as I have a feeling PGR5 which hasn't even been announced yet will hit the streets before this.
  • Caimbeul #30 2 years ago

This is just getting beyond a joke!

"Why are people saying this was delayed? I can't remember them mentioning a release date any time before? Is it because it's been on the radar since.. well, GT4? "

I think there were initially talks of it being released not long after the PS3 launch! It has been delayed...by years. I admit that the initial release dates were likely unrealistic but it has been given many dates so far.

Well, it can't be as bad as Alan Wake at least! I remember watching a trailer for that back in 2005 or 2006 where they showed a tornado wreaking havoc on a small town and it ended with an ad for Intel's soon to be released four core CPU's. I was like "WOAH!!" and actually bought one of those four core thingies. Let me just say.. I've upgraded since, and now it's not even certain Alan Wake is coming out on PC anymore (I think)! :p
  • canIdoyabombsforya #32 2 years ago

This is worse than waiting for that other AAA title, Afrika.

    @ MESSIAH999: Uncharted 2, 'nuff said.

Anyway Kaz has said he won't release an incomplete product...

Didn't they just release one that was missing a career mode on PSP?
