Final Fantasy 10 HD remake for Vita and PS3 is a remaster
But visuals will be much better, promises Square Enix.
The Final Fantasy 10 HD remake for Vita and PlayStation 3 is in fact a remaster, Square Enix has confirmed.
When the game was announced at last year's Tokyo Game Show, it was described ambiguously as a remake, leading some to believe Square Enix planned to completely revamp the game in high definition.
Now, Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto, speaking at the Taipei Game Show (via Andriasang), has cleared up the confusion.
"The game is being developed like a high-definition remaster, but the visuals will look much better compared to the original," he told Taiwanese gaming site Gamer.
As Andriasang points out, Hashimoto's "remaster" comment confirms Final Fantasy 10 on Vita and PS3 will be akin to the HD updates of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
Final Fantasy 10 HD is without a release date.

Also hope FFXII gets the treatment to fix the shoddy bordered video and exceptionally aliased/boxy environments. I didn't get to finish it as the PS3 had come along and, even with the advent of BC, I just found new shinies more enthralling than its softly softly, less story driven approach.

FF10 was the last great FF for me, it had a great breadth of characters, and towns that were geniunely interesting. 12 i never got on with, but actually enjoyed the spin off Reverent wings alot more. But would love for 12 to be re-released as well so i can give it an another shot.

RE FFX HD: Vita and PS3 would be a universal single purchase?

It's possibly the best and saddest ending I've seen to a game.
This actually makes me a little jealous of my PS3 owning mate.

And I agree with a lot of the other comments here - I'd be more interested in seeing a remake/release/remastering of FFXII. Although it was a bit hit and miss, FXII had some really great ideas, and had probably the strongest sense of place of any FF game.

Could be just rendered at a higher res, could be a Zelda OOT style one with models and textures redone.

Still got a lot of catching up to do before I get there though. I only got through the first disc of 7 last time, so it'll be a while before I need to worry about 10. Would like to see 12 too, as it sounds like it has a system I'd get along with.

They may not have lots lights and effect and explosions. but wow the connection with the game is still there over 10 years later.
I think this will do really well when they bring it over in HD.

Saw that scene last night and i would disagree with that.
It was good scene , in that the laughing was fake but the real laughing was at the end of that scene.

Hopefully we'll be able to swap saves between the Vita and PS3 versions. I'll definitely buy it for both if that's the case.

@Triggerhappytel - I have to disagree on two counts. Firstly, FFX was absolutely very linear. As was FFXIII. The other three titles in the main series, however, have been much less linear than earlier games. In terms of loss of interest over time, I agree with you, although I would put the decline a bit later (and earlier games weren't immune either - FFVIII was a low point for me). My point is just that the loss of world map did not lead directly to linearity.
Secondly, with regards the style, FFX wasn't so much sci-fi - it was a deliberate attempt to broaden the narrow cliche of knights and armor fantasy. This had already been started with VII and VIII, and in FFX the particular intention was to introduce south-east Asian artistic stylings into the mix. That's basically a nit-pick though ;p

Having said that FF10 was really good. No chance of an XBLA release?

Edit: Just want to make it known that I'm a huge FF fan, especially 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12. I even enjoyed 13, and while I thought 10 was fine, I have no desire to go back and replay it.
