Dante's Inferno sequel hinted at on writer's CV

Second outing for Visceral's action title?

A sequel to EA's 2009 action title Dante's Inferno is - or was - in the works, judging by writer Joshua Rubin's online résumé.

As spotted by Twitter detective Superannuation, Rubin, who co-wrote Assassin's Creed 2 for Ubisoft, mentions work for "a Major Unannounced Sequel from Visceral Studios at EA Games."

As way of a hint, he then links to a trailer for the original Dante's Inferno.

Of course, that's not confirmation that the game is definitely happening but at the least it seems it was reasonably far along at one point in time.

When questioned about a potential sequel late last year, Visceral's Zach Mumbach insisted nothing was currently planned.

"I'm sure that if enough people are like, 'I got 60 dollars for Purgatory or Paradiso,' then we would make that game. But I don't know. I don't get to make those decisions," he said.

Visceral's original biblical button masher scored 6/10 from Eurogamer.

"You can't ignore the fact this is a God of War clone at its core, and many of the ideas here feel tired, familiar and dated," wrote Ellie Gibson in her Dante's Inferno review.

Can we expect another huge penis flapping about on the last boss again? Because, I'll tell you, it was hard to concentrate with that thing there.

Felt like it was looking at me.

Still havent' playued the original. Tried out the demo at the time and considering it was out just a couple of months before God of War 3 it felt cheap and uninspired. Pretty much everything was ripped from GOW and for that reason it deserved it's average review scores. Maybe try harder coming up with some original ideas next time EA. Sure you're allowed to borrow a successful template, but don't just blatantly copy and paste it like an amateur.

@sfp_noodle It actually panned out to be not quite like God of War 3 towards the end, pleasantly so in fact.

Enough that I would be intrigued enough to see a sequel at least!

I enjoyed the first one. Fair enough it was completed really quickly but I thought it was a pretty entertaining hack and slash and a good interpretation of the source material.

The sort of game that is played with Wikipedia as a constant companion.

Yeah the first wasn't too bad as an action game. It didn't really tackle the themes of each circle of hell with particular enthusiasm though, making the journey surprisingly void of inspired imagery or atmosphere. In fact, sometimes I'm not sure I could even tell what circle of hell I was in if it wasn't telegraphed to me.

I'd buy a sequel. Sure it's not up to God Of War standards in terms of story, gameplay or graphics but it wasn't all bad. I'd like to see an updated Isaac skin to reflect the new suit he wore in DS2.

I also enjoyed many of the tortured screams and rantings of those damned souls.

    @wtc0771 Agreed.
I didn't actually like Dante's at the start but the more I played, the more I enjoyed it right up to the end.

This is why reviewing a FULL game makes sense instead of reviewing the cut down review builds.

I really tried to like the first, I love games like it. But the roll in the game was so gimped (seriously, pits and cliffs where you can roll of into in games like this are killing) and the general art direction after an initial good start became boring as hell. It had it's merits but there was a lot more potential the they got out of it. the latter 50 % of the game was lame as hell.

Like many here, I really enjoyed it too, especially as I only have a 360, and therefore God of War isn't an option for me. I played through it twice back to back in fact, to juice all the achievements and sample both sides of the upgrade tree.
