Relic lifts lid on Space Marine co-op

Exterminatus free early October DLC.

Space Marine co-op will be added to the game free of charge in early October, developer Relic has announced.

It will be four-player online co-op free to anyone who buys the game.

The mode, called Exterminatus, is Space Marine versus Orks and the Forces of Chaos.

All three multiplayer classes: Tactical Marine, Devastator and Assault, are available. Perks unlocked in the competitive multiplayer mode can be used, and co-op progression will apply to your multiplayer ranking, meaning you can unlock perks and weapons through it.

Exterminatus will initially launch with two scenarios: Assault on Hab Center Andreas and Escape from Kalkys Facility. Each will include multiple arenas. Co-op is score based, with global leaderboards. Multipliers and dynamic challenges will help teams boost their scores.

The game itself launches next Friday in the UK.

    I NEED THIS GAME.

I hope this game does well. It deserves to.

Real shame it isn't full campaign co-op; that would have been superb.

Mind you, that the game has multiplayer / co-op at all is impressive given that most action / adventure titles like it tend to be single-player only.

Exterminatus? Doesn't that mean "nuke it from orbit" where "it" is the entire planet?

can somebody explain to me the logic of putting an advert for a game at the begining of an advert for a game?
I like the look of dead island, but i clicked on a tab for "Space Marine Trailer".
Its all advertising, let me watch the advert i choose

Hmm, I was really hoping for a full co-op campaign. Honestly this seemed like the perfect kind of game for it. A tacked-on co-op mode is better than nothing, I suppose, but I don't think it's enough to convince me to buy it.

If the single player campaign is 12-15 hours of gameplay like in the demo, I'm more than sold even with zero co-op whatsoever. Full co-op would have been great, but this is just a nice bonus IMO.

Hmmm... sounds like horde mode... could be epic.

    Awesome!

I've got next Friday booked off for this, hopefully shopto will do their usual day early delivery.

Free co-op in a month is just icing at this point :D

    EDIT : Tricia Helfer gigady

    @KDR_11K

Exterminatus is the act of destroying an entire planet for the good of the empirium, usually this s acheived through orbital bombardment but there is no reason you couldn't do it by hand if you had the time
  • phAge #11 9 months ago

Actually, I believe the term Exterminatus is explicitely used for the act of bombing a planet with viral bombs, turning all organic matter into goo and explosive gas. This is then ignited, leaving the planet a blasted, lifeless lump of space-rock.

Bit hard to do by hand - even for an Ultramarine. :p

Sounds excellent, but more importantly.. will there be any split screen local co-op? Because there really needs to be. Local multiplayer! It's important! Please find out Eurogamer.
  • FeralJim #13 9 months ago

@ #11: The Blood Angels sneer at your puny Ultramarines. Let the exterminatus commence, for the SANGUINOR!

"Real shame it isn't full campaign co-op; that would have been superb."

Considering how much they would have to alter the campaign mode to fit it, it was never very likely.

They explicitly state online co-op. So I'm saying no.

Blood Angels? Aren't they like normal space marine, but emo? :)
  • Beige_Alert #16 9 months ago

    Pft, Space Wolves ftw
By the way, odd that no one is mentioning that this seems like a move by Relic against second hand buyers of the game.

I thought the co-op applied to tha single player game. Shame :(

Will still be buying this after i finish resistance 3 wich is getting very good reviews.

@ #16 Well, from the way it sounds its free to anyone with a copy of the game regardless of the means they got it. Nothing has been said specificly for new copies so presumably once you have it on your account there will be a link from ingame to get the dlc
