UK Top 40: Duke Nukem crowned first

The King topples L.A. Noire.

Potty-mouthed shooter Duke Nukem Forever has landed first place in the UK charts.

It knocked fellow Take-Two title L.A. Noire down to second, after a three week reign on top.

InFamous 2, another big release last week, entered in fourth - despite the game being PS3 only.

New shooty Martian adventure Red Faction also took off, managing a respectable eighth place.

With three new entries, regular chart faces such as Lego Pirates shuffled down to fifth, while DiRT 3 dug in to sixth and Black Ops slipped to ninth. Portal 2 made tenth.

The only entry to climb the top ten was Zumba Fitness, still selling like gangbusters and now back up to third. Blame Wii gamers - 84 per cent of sales are on Nintendo's machine, with 14 per cent on Xbox 360 and two per cent on PS3.

Hmm the king is not dead then?
  • Phishfood #2 12 months ago

apparently not, the king is king for this week.
  • Timotei #3 12 months ago

    Hail to capitalism, baby.

Infamous 2 deserved better, i bought it yesterday, and its a perfect example of of how to make a sequel. theyve taken the original and tuned it to perfection. Ive even come to terms with Coles new voice! D:
  • rotmm #5 12 months ago

    Good news for Infamous 2.
  • andywilkie35 #6 12 months ago

Duke's number 1? That's a lot of pissed off people playing that turkey!
  • Shakey_Jake33 #7 12 months ago

Glad to see Duke doing well, it makes the chances of a sequel a tad more likely.
  • BBIAJ #8 12 months ago

    In your face EG! :oP
  • jamhead #9 12 months ago

So. Those of you that have bought Duke Nukem... How does it stack up? Seemed to be quite a lot of people enjoying it in the comments thread after the review. I am still strangely tempted just for the nostalgia factor!
  • snick #10 12 months ago

I wonder how many people forgot that they pre-ordered Duke 15 years ago.
  • King_Edward #11 12 months ago

    Always bet on Duke.

Yeah and they're getting plussed as well so it must have something. I might still give it a go one day but not at full price.
  • menage #13 12 months ago

Poor people fell into with their eyes closed.

I wonder who bought that piece of shit. Everybody can look at a sinngel screenshot and see it's awful. Probably like us when we were 12.

And inFamous 2 exclusive versus multiplatform? Yeah right, terrible achievement.

I got Duke on Friday and took it back today. There was already a pile of 6-7 other returned Dukes behind the counter.
  • BBIAJ #15 12 months ago

The funny thing is, EG will only have helped DNF's chart position by purchasing a copy to review!
  • Phishfood #16 12 months ago

Now that I think about it, its not that suprising. There have been many times where mediocre and somewhat-dubious titles have made it high in the charts.
  • chibber23 #17 12 months ago

I got DNF on Steam, my PC can run it on full everything (i hear the XBox and PS3 versions are bad ports)... I turned off the post processing stuff as it makes the zoom look bad and it was a little slow to get going but other than those 2 points I'm really enjoying the game, far more than I enjoyed COD:MW2.

Yes it's big, dum and brash but the shooting mechanics are solid, the gunplay is oodles of fun, the environments are varied, it's colourful and has some genuinely funny moments. The paceing is pretty good, when it gets up to speed it dosent slow down and keeps shaking things up. Also the campaign is big and meaty with lots to do (I'm not done yet but I read there are 24 chapters - they are a good size each and 10 of them are apparantly 2 part chapters). I've not checked the MP out yet but with the shrink ray I'm hoping for some fun!
  • Progguitarist #18 12 months ago

Incredible. Apparently you can polish a turd.

Completely agree. It's big, stupid, fast and funny. The occasional bit of humour misses the mark completely, usually involving Duke's 2 lady friends, it's utterly cringe worthy. That aside though, I'm having a blast on the PC. I really think it should be re-reviewed by someone else on the platform it was intended for.

It sold well because there were no pre release reviews,i was stupid enough to buy this big pile of steaming turd and i would advise anybody thinking of doing the same not to bother. It would be more fun sticking a sharp nail into your scrotem.
  • Retro_ #22 12 months ago

Maybe people just want to experience what a 14yr old, dead several times, team change and general back from the dead game plays like. I mean, who would of thought that after all of that it would suck monkey balls LOL!
  • HiddenPooh #23 12 months ago

I understand most of the negatives, but they are not why I returned the game.
Repeated death and then waiting 45 seconds for the sodding level to load again - that's why he went back to the shop.

That's despite a mammoth install on my PS3.

BTW Disappointed Duke players - Game are offering 30 quid trade in so you wont lose that much by returning it.

    Duke>Infamous 2
    EG is dead.
  • DrStrangelove #25 12 months ago

Are there game return charts too?
  • SPENCER41 #26 12 months ago

I bought this and put it on eBay the same day. The single player was well thought out although very repetitive. But the multiplayer was terrible, like they spent 5 minutes putting it together. Poor for 40 quid
  • HiddenPooh #27 12 months ago

    Genuinely funny moments?
Duke saves a girl from certain death in a plunging lift and she quips "Duke, I'll go down with you anytime"

FFS, my 14 year old son thought it was pathetic.
  • IIJAZMANII #28 12 months ago

Im enjoying DNF. I didnt have high expectations, didnt read any reviews. Rented it on Friday completed it Saturday night and it was fun. I've played alot worse. Eurogamers 3/10 is abit unfair tbh. Just think of it as one of those eighties movies where the hero goes around blowing shit up...and chewing bubblegum.
Definatley worth a rental, not sure about paying £40 for it tho.
  • coolbritannia #29 12 months ago

    Duke beats inFamous. Hell yeah.
  • StooMonster #30 12 months ago

HiddenPooh: FFS, my 14 year old son thought it was pathetic.

Maybe if he was 18 like the game's BBFC certificate he would've thought it was funny?
  • alan_stealth #31 12 months ago

    Duke is a Great game.
If this is not evidence enough that so called reviewers are out of touch with what people want to play and enjoy playing I don't know what is.
  • Matthew_Hornet #32 12 months ago

    People are morons.
  • dingo75 #33 12 months ago

The Lego games are the only (multiplatform) 3DS games in the charts for a couple of weeks now.
    Way to go Nintendo!
  • rashes #34 12 months ago

Loving Dirt 3 so much. I'd really recommend it. Multiplayer is fab.
  • Nephirion #35 12 months ago

who the fuck is still buying black ops?

eurogamer got it wrong on duke as it did on mafia 2
  • azic #36 12 months ago

    @HiddenPooh
We would all find it pathetic sat with our dad playing the game, its not like your son would break out the ooh yeah baby with dad around. I bet it would be different if his mate/s were there.

And as already stated, the game is rated 18, not 14 maybe although i doubt it, he did not get it?
  • Lee_Morris #37 12 months ago

  • darkos87 #38 12 months ago

I guess DNF will always sell well, but kind of sad people paid full price for a very bad game with poor mechanics outdated visuals etc.

"Repeated death and then waiting 45 seconds for the sodding level to load again - that's why he went back to the shop".

so because you found the game difficult, the game is rubbish.
  • metalangel #40 12 months ago

@GarethBale3: But if he finishes it in under five hours, it's a dumbed down game for casual noobs.
  • God_Octo #41 12 months ago

I wish I weren't so poor- I really want Infamous 2, but I just haven't the money. Might need to do a little bit more whoring.
  • des #42 12 months ago

"Eurogamer reviews are crap. I only come here for the pictures, news, and vids."

    +1
I just come here for news though.Youtube is like billion times better,no point in clicking on any EG video, awful just awful.
  • leetlazzy #43 12 months ago

Man, i'm sure glad non of these little kid cry babies were around back in the atari and regular nintendo days. Seriously, the Graphics are not BAD they aint super shinny but who cares honestly? The game play is simple and fun that's 100% all a game needs to be is enjoyable. To many people in this generation are stuck on graphics over game play which is ridiculous. I'm sorry but all the CoD and Halo fan boys have ruined any FPS games for the future. I don't know how any of you can support a rehashed game on a new cover over n over it's seriously pathetic that you re-buy the same game when you can play the old one with the same junk in it.

    Boom Roasted.
  • GarethBale3 #44 11 months ago

@metalangel I'm just saying HP could of lowered the difficulty level and gave it a bit more time. He didn't say it was rubbish just he was.

agreed the load times are rubbish.

    the game is fun though
