Mafia II: Director's Cut sighted
2K to repackage mob saga?
Last year's open world crime epic Mafia II is getting the Director's Cut treatment, if a new retail listing is to be believed.
According to an Amazon page, the special edition will include the core game, three additional story packs and four car and clothes packs.
That's all the information that's currently out there, but it's a fairly safe assumption that those story packs are existing DLC expansions Joe's Adventures, Jimmy's Vendetta and The Betrayal of Jimmy. We've dropped publisher 2K a line for clarification.
The game originally launched last year on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Eurogamer's John Teti wasn't a fan, but perhaps some extra content might make things a little more attractive.

The game was still great, but if it came out as it was designed without cuts, it would have been a freaking masterpiece (like the first one).
Oh well.

Does this mean the Director's Cut on 360 will finally allow those that bought it for that system to play it?
I doubt it though, seeing as how The Joker remained a Sony exclusive when the GOTY edition came out...

Once you've cleared the docks, drive a car into the water!
The warehouse door will have closed when you respawn dockside, but the door to the office at the top of the stairs is now glowing, so enter in there, take cover behind the desk or filing cabinets, and try taking out the boss from there, and the other guys as they enter the office.
With any luck, he'll run around from the main balcony to the catwalk opposite the larger windows, giving you an easier shot.

From the gutted content to the weak 'humour' (seemingly trying to make it into GTA 1950), publisher interference ruined this game.

Pretentious overlong intro, followed by missing the point entirely, forgetting why the average Joe plays video games in the first place. Go work for Edge or something.....
Anyhow it was pretty clear no matter how good the released game was, that it was butchered for the sake of creating some DLC. In an ideal world the directors cut would be as the finished game should of been. Now that would have me buy it a second time around!

That 4/10 got under my skin a bit because after playing the game I could see that it was completely unjust. So I thought I'd google John Teti and I was a little relieved to find out he is a bit of twat. Only problem is that it does seem pretty unfair on the developers who rely on fair reviews to garner sales. I hereby request that Teti exlusively reviews only Activision from now on. What do you say EG?

Eh? So you think low scores should be outlawed so devs can keep in business?
If that was the case, very few devs would give you any more than the bare minimum to get by.
I welcome low scores for average games.
With the crappy score scale used by most reviews, there can be an absolute gulf of difference between a 7 and an 8

But in a world where 5/10 and lower are hardly ever used (and I think everyone can see the low end of the scale is not used often enough), Mafia and it's sequel both getting a 4 looks very out of place.
But hey, as we all say, a score is never 'right' - maybe both the reviewers really did think the Mafia games are in the bottom 5-10% of all games.

How can you be still annoyed at a Rachet and Clank review, of all things?

I didn't like the DLC all that much (Joe's one) because there was no cut scenes and it all fault too arcadey.

This is why I don't buy games on release anymore. Imagine Portal 2 and L.A. Noire will have the "content held back for extra fleecing" treatment too so will wait until next year when they get their inevitable "full" releases.
