racing games are popular in UK,no surprise there

Disliked the opening hour but saw the potential for fun in TDU2, but once got few things going on at a time, get more entertaining.

Yes flawed, but sometimes really shines, ie last night racing in a stormy night, rain pouring, chasing the leader for the lead, mere moments from the finishing line, rival leader got smacked into a traffic coming from the side, I stormed into victory!

Kinds of moments like this make it worthwhile, but how often? That what I m trying to find out.

Colour me surprised at TDU2 taking first place.

If that news doesn't spur Atari into fixing the servers pronto nothing will. It's a great game online when it works.

TDU2's having a rough start (a bit like the original, I suppose) with server problems and a nasty exploit which has forced them to take the car club servers back offline almost immediately... but it's still the same great fun the original was, I've just gotten back to Oahu and it's like coming home again after years away: everything is familiar yet changed a bit.

I appreciate that TDU2 is a great game, I'm loving it... But, it's possibly one of the most unfinished bits of software I can remember. No? Online doesn't work, casino doesn't work, clubs don't work... So basically anything involving enjoying game with friends doesn't work? It's just a shame that this still gets them to number 1... I'd be interested to see how many people end up taking it back though after a disappointing weekend?

Course it's hard not to be disappointed when the servers are up and down more than a small boy on a bouncy castle but it's not like we've not been through it before. Any one of use who enjoyed TDU knew it would take a little time to calm the technical shit storm it had at the very start, and this one is no different. When TDU2 does work it's an all round much better experience, something I never thought I'd say given my completely love for the first.

Shame about the Police being ruined in this version and cars disappearing in front of you. Apart from that and car clubs not working, casino not working, FRIM 'bank' button is same as 'challenge' button, etc, it's quite good for a demo.

I've been hooked on TDU2 all weekend, just chilling out, exploring and doing the random missions, but got annoyed by all the server problems which in some cases stopped me even resuming my game despite the fact I've been playing solo (I have the online features disabled in-game). I'm not sure how long the current buzz will last but so far it's a decent, enjoyable if ultimately flawed game (dumbed down police, crashing has no affect on car handling, big but relatively empty islands with surprisingly little to see and discover, bland race events, godawful voice-overs at the start of races, tedious licence tests, $1,500 for a car wash (?!?!?!), etc., etc.).

@TheDrifter - Neither GT5 nor Forza 3 are open-world racing games and that, for me, is where TDU2 has most of its appeal and I suspect that is true for others too, particularly with the online aspects of the game that help it give it a unique MMORPG feel. That feature alone distinguishes it from many other generic racing games. You can just explore and not have to take part in race events at all if you choose. For me there's nothing quite like putting on some custom music on (via MediaMonkey) and then taking a Ferrari for a spin; just driving around unlocking all the rounds and locations. Very relaxing and totally unlike anything else (well, except for TDU1!).

Shame there isn't more to see because even when you get to Hawaii at level 10 there's a very familiar feel to it all, not just because that island was in the first game but also because all the shops are the same as Ibiza's (including the people running them - maybe they're all twins?!?) and many of the houses look identical too. More variety would have been welcome.

Props to TDU2 then. Dead Space 2 was a terrible disappointment.
