Final Fantasy Agito XIII renamed Type-0

Out this summer.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII has a new name: Final Fantasy Type-0.

Square Enix this morning confirmed it'll launch in the summer 2011, before the just-announced Final Fantasy XIII-2 releases. A Japanese website is live.

Type-0 in one of a number of games in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series of Final Fantasy titles.

Agito, or Type-0, is Square Enix's mysterious Final Fantasy XIII spin-off for PlayStation Portable. It is so big it will ship on two UMDs – the first PSP game to do so.

Director Hajime Tabata said the game was renamed because he didn't think it was enough like Final Fantasy XIII.

Agito's worldview is described as a "fantasy conflict between four sides". Battles are "deadly clashes between weapons and magic". The game also looks at the two sides of reality, the ordinary and extraordinary.

Agito, originally a mobile game, was unveiled moons ago in 2006 alongside FF XIII and FF Versus XIII. Like those, Agito is part of Fabula Nova Crystallis, or "the new tale of the crystal".

and vs XIII has a lot in common with it doesn't it?

in any case this is one of my highest anticipated games but i thought it would never get released, all of squeenix's psp games are sublime.

Now that I've been given a vague release date, as they say, I spill my drink

How are Final Fantasy fans able to keep up with all the different titles out there? Seems like a mess of different titles.

At least Square Enix can keep their promises. OK now where is the long-ago promised Resident Evil PSP, Capcom? Thanks.

    I hope this is good

I'm not sure I like the idea of another game being set in a high school. That idea completely destroyed Valkyria Chronicles.. But it does sound interesting and hopefully having two UMD's means the game is going to be very big, not just loaded with video.

vs XIII doesn't have a lot in common, they were just announced at the same time as part of the bizarrely title compilation series. The themes go:

    Agito – Past
    Versus – Present
    XIII – Future

So Agito would probably be a bit more XII / IX in terms of atmosphere I’d guess.

Technically, wont it be the second game to come on 2 UMDs after Super robot wars Z 2? I think srwz2 comes out first but the second disk will be released later but they are 2 parts of 1 whole.

I’m sure there is also some Japan only tactics RPG that was spread over 2 discs. I thought it looked massively interesting but never saw the light of day over here.

Clannad was on two UMDs as well, it may have even been the first since it game out way back in 2008, although I can't guarantee that.
