GT5 gets free Christmas DLC

New cars available for limited time.

Gran Turismo 5 developer Polyphony Digital is getting in the Christmas spirit and offering free DLC for the game over the festive period.

According to Japanese site 4gamer, as translated by 1Up, three cars - a Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640, a BMW M3 Coupe and a Jaguar XJ13 – will be available for download between 24th December and 31st January.

Sony hasn't confirmed whether the offer will extend outside of Japan but all three cars are currently available via other means. The Lamborghini and BMW came as bonuses with the game's Collector's Edition while the Jaguar was a promotional extra available via the Gran Turismo 5 Facebook app.

The oft-delayed but ultimately rather brilliant Gran Turismo 5 finally left the garage last month. Earlier today, the game's creator Kazunori Yamauchi revealed he was planning to add more premium cars to the current roster.

    We were told GT5 was going to get a lot of support, free dlc a couple of patches, hasn't been a month yet!!
  • natashaspice #3 1 year ago

    Thanks for the Christmas present. And they call you a fanboy if you praise Sony. Take note these are the reasons why. Free is always good :D

    This better extend to outside Japan, otherwise it'll be a nice "fuck you" to Western GT5 players this Xmas.
  • handsonhips101 #5 1 year ago

    Just make a Japanese Psn account if it doesn't happen here. Easy.
  • Haq-1 #6 1 year ago

    Damn! y does it have 2 b Lambo. I bought it 2 use in the GT World Championship, got it as a prize car for driving over 2000km, now b my 3rd time gettin it by DLC lol
  • monkeywithnoeyes #7 1 year ago

    free is awesome..but we should all know by now that these cars were probably removed from the game in the first place to be used for promotions.

    It's all manipulation. And ofcourse they're talking about supporting GT5 with dlc prem cars - those cars are already done..and waiting on a 6/12month dlc release calender. Just the way things work now.. only becomes abit of a piss take when you've waited 6yrs for a game and only 20% of the cars on the disc have had full effert put into them...and the game still needs work due to graphical glitches ect
  • Wilky #8 1 year ago

    With a 1000 cars already on offer I'd have preferred a few new tracks! Not too fussed tho as sent it back to boomerang as thought it was horrible!
  • Phily50 #9 1 year ago

    @monkeywithnoeyes

    20% of the cars on disc? So by your calculations, they'll be releasing about 9000 cars as DLC?
  • scottycam #10 1 year ago

    @Phily50
    - No he said 20% of the cars have had full effort put into them. Which is true.

    If your going to attempt to exaggerate someone's comment to take the piss out of them at least make sure you read it properly.
  • Malek86 #11 1 year ago

    @handsonhips101: actually, DLC is only compatible with games of the same region. So yeah. Unless they release it here, no dice.
  • M_of_the_sys #12 1 year ago

    I'm gonna be no where near my PS3 over Christmas :(
  • M_of_the_sys #13 1 year ago

    @Ap3xx

    All premium. If you have the game, get the Jag through Facebook now.
  • Stop-gap #14 1 year ago

    Yeah, it's a bit of hassle, but it was well worth it. I love that car.
  • Miths #15 1 year ago

    Hardly something to getting worked up over if it won't be available on the EU store. The excellent Jaguar XJ13 takes a few minutes to unlock with a boring Facebook "game" (a forum thread at gtplanet.net has a guide for doing this) and I assume the Lambo and the BMW are the chrome versions that came with the collector's edition?

    I have both, the M3 is nice, but aside from the chrome paintjob, you can just buy and tune the regular M3 Coupe instead.
    And the LP 640 for some reason has pretty dreadful handling, making the LP 670-4 a vastly better in-game choice if you want a great Lamborghini.
  • SavageEvil #16 1 year ago

    @the monkey and the other guy, please kill the crap talk already. 20% had full effort put into them, shut up! They chose to add the other 800+ standard cars because of time constraints, which kept them from getting more fully realized cars done. Check the history of what was going on with PD and Sony dealing with the GT franchise since PS3 became available. If you don't know by now, try shutting up as you have no clue what you are talking about.

    Free DLC, I don't mind as I don't have either of those cars, I have a few premium cars and for the life of me, I prefer to drive from the bumper. Inside the car is to busy and blocks out a lot of my view, looks great but when I'm racing it's not used. Physics above all else, interaction with the cars themselves, sure visually I would love the game to look perfect, but I'll live with it as every car run on the same physics engine. Plus you can kill the nannies and make the track edge grip realistic and have a go at driving, nothing to save you but your skill.

    No patches! No DLC! Everything in the game is on the disk!
  • disappointed #18 1 year ago

    Damn, I was hoping they'd hand out the Formula GT. Waiting for it to show up in the used car dealership is no fun. Oh well, you can never have too many Lambos.
  • Macross #19 1 year ago

    id rather they released a patch so you could buy all of the lovely selection of cars from the shop rather than faffing around with retarded 2nd hand randomness.

    "The Lamborghini and BMW came as bonuses with the game's Collector's Edition"

    No they didn't. They came with the Signature Edition. And they were sold as 'exclusive' to that AUD$300 edition. Less than a month later, they are just given away. Nice way to treat the fans.

    It's always like that with Collectors Edition DLC. ;)
  • Zebula77 #24 1 year ago

    That's cool. I REALLY need a car like the Jaguar to beat that goddamn Historic Car Cup event. It's pretty much the only one I can't do right now. :p

    edit: @Astrocreature: Really? That's disappointing. I mean, it's one of the cars the CPU always uses. That event is really starting to bug me lol.

    @monkeywithnoeyes

    These cars are in the game, these ones have an exclusive paintjob which makes them special for some people.
  • stegabba #26 1 year ago

    @Zebula77 first off the chrome line jag wont work in the historic cup because it doesn't recognize it as a old car unlike the one you get for a prize or whatever, secondly i never driven the jag on historic cup because imo you will get smoked by the 2j and toyota 7, want to beat it? get a 2j it is so easy with that car
  • Haq-1 #27 1 year ago

    @Stegabba

    How do u unlock the 2J? Was gonna try n get the Toyata '70 Race car but getting all the way to the Extreme series in B-spec is a bit of a bore...lol

    "Then why are you here Wookie....."

    Dr_Wookiee is here because he is a 360 fanboy who would have been all agog with praise if this had been on the 360, and even more if so if this had been a 360 exclusive - then he would have noticed only the positives of the game! As proof, I would direct your attention to game# 11 and #12 on his game collection - FM2 & 3, which he rated 9. Also note that he has taken the time to get 48 out of the total 50 Achievements for FM3 on his gamercard page.

    In conclusion, Dr_Wookiee is a jealous 360 fanboy showing symptoms of the sour-grapes-syndrome :)
