Lara Croft online co-op delayed again

Five DLC packs revealed.

Square Enix has delayed Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light's online cooperative function for a second time.

It was originally supposed to be available for the game's August Xbox Live Arcade release, but was delayed till the release of the PlayStation Network and PC (via Steam) versions, which launch on the 28th September.

It's now been delayed again, this time to the useful "a later date". We'll pop that in the diary.

We've asked Square Enix if this delay relates to all versions of the game or just the PC and PS3 versions.

More usefully, Square Enix has detailed the downloadable add-on packs it has in store for the game.

From October to December five packs will be made available to download across all formats.

The first three expansion packs feature "a combination of all new puzzle, exploration and combat experiences" and new areas to explore.

The final two are playable character packs, "offering gamers the chance to experience the entire adventure without Lara Croft and Totec and instead with some other well-known videogame characters..." Cryptic.

Keza MacDonald reviewed for Eurogamer, and gave Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light a stonking 9/10. Check the first 15 minutes below.

Ten bucks says one of the character packs will be Raziel and Kain.

    New characters? Interesting..

I bought this and have been playing co-op with my missus. She loves it. We play games together. THEREFORE THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER! Actually, it is really good. I'm surprised EDGE gave it a 6, and that EG's review was much more spot on.

Thanks for the reminder of the release date for this.

    I'm glad I waited, now I'm not interested anymore:p

TheDellBingo: No doubt more people would if they'd just get around to releasing the online co-op mode...

Looks good though, reckon the local co-op could work well for me and the lady and online co-op for me and a mate. The straightforward looking co-op mode reminds me of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance on PS2.

Is 'new character' and 'costume pack' DLC popular?
  • Geordiemp #6 2 years ago

I wil buy it when the online coop arrives, at some undisclosed date...

I was going to buy this when it came out on Steam, but i'll wait for the complete version now ... I hate DLC

Gee, people are missing that co-op feature. Oh, I know, instead of getting that done, we'll just develope and release a large amount of DLC (which they also have to pay for), that'll distract them.

Good game this, me and her indoors really enjoyed it, but 9/10? Better than Batman: AA and Read Dead Redemption? Get out of it!
  • kinky_mong #11 2 years ago

Fuck sake, I was going to buy this when they patched in the online co-op, but to delay a feature that should have been in from the start only to announce DLC to fleece people takes the piss some what.

They won't be getting any of my money until they get the online co-op working.

That sucks, the only reason I've not brought it yet is that I have no real friends. It's getting to the point where I'm losing interest.

    @CaptainQuint

Ever heard of context? Or were you saying that ironically? If not... you should have been.
  • Lee_Morris #14 2 years ago

    £6.29 a pack. Believe.
  • CaptainQuint #15 2 years ago

A spade is a spade. Bollocks to context: this game, as good as it is is not worthy of a higher score than the two games I mentioned. It's all relative, yes, but a game is a game.
  • MasterNameless #16 2 years ago

Haah, yeah right. So we don;t take into account the length of the game, or the much cheaper price at all?

That is ridiculous, but the belligerence is pretty funny, I give you that. :D
  • Goodfella #17 2 years ago

    @CaptainQuint

So what you're saying is, only larger, big budget games deserve scores of 9/10?

    Crazy mindset you have there.
  • CaptainQuint #18 2 years ago

"Haha, yeah right. So we don;t take into account the length of the game, or the much cheaper price at all?"

Of course we do; up to a point. But let's not get carried away - a game must be a lot more than good value for money to justify such a very high score; at least it does in my book. I don't think it would be difficult to argue this in detail, but I'm not one for lengthy online debates so I'll agree to disagree, if you don't mind? However, I will say that harsh though it is: Edge's 6/10 is far easier to justify than EG's 9.

    @Goodfella

Sorry, but that's an naive remark. Are big budget movies automatically superior to low budget ones? Of course not. Some of the best movies ever made are little "indie" productions, but in my opinion Tomb Raider the game does not match the criteria of any number of those movies. It's a good, solid game, but it's not one point away from full marks. Budget has bugger all to do with it.
  • metalangel #20 2 years ago

And this is why it only sold 65,000 copies.

Because they couldn't be bothered finishing it, I couldn't be bothered buying it. That's fair.
  • CaptainQuint #21 2 years ago

^ Ah, the downloadable games roundup. The weekly segment were EG's credibility goes right out the window.
  • X #22 2 years ago

I'm with everyone else on this one. Got plenty of other things to play while me and the co-op partner wait for the patch but it's still crazy it isn't done yet. They were clever though, it being part of the offer for the 400 points return so people bought it before it was finished.
  • Geordiemp #23 2 years ago

You have to put pricing i to context with reviews...

You can get for example prince of peria forgotten sands for £ 12 - does that now make that a 9/10 ?
  • CaptainQuint #24 2 years ago

No. It never was a 9, in my opinion.
  • Mr-Brett #25 2 years ago

People need to realise that patching in online play doesn't take an entire studio to do. Most of the designers, artists and programmers will not be involved, so what are they going to do while the patch is being made? they can either bugger off home or work on new content such as DLC or the next game.

Seems I'll have to postpone my purchase...
