The new Uncharted movie is "an origin story to the games", says lead Tom Holland

"It's one of the best scripts I've ever read."

Despite a myriad of issues, delays, and personnel changes, actor Tom Holland insists the script for the (hopefully?) upcoming Uncharted movies is "one of the best [he's] ever read".

"I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it's one of the best scripts I've ever read," Holland told IGN this week. "It really, really jumps off the page."

As Tom reported last month, Sony's increasingly-unlikely-looking Uncharted film has now lost its sixth director. Travis Knight, who previously helmed Transformers spin-off Bumblebee, was the latest to be named director of the project. That was back in October, after fifth director Dan Tractenberg quit last August.

What has not changed is the fact MCU Spider-Man Tom Holland is still on board to play a young-looking Nathan Drake. Holland says he's "super excited" to be playing the iconic game character, and says Uncharted offers something that most video games films don't - it's "an origin story to the games".

"I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don't is that it's an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the film," he said. "And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the film because it's information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I'm super excited to make that movie and it's been a long time coming."

Mark Wahlberg - once set to play Drake himself in the original Uncharted movie pitch a million years ago - is still on board to play older sidekick Sully, something Holland approves of.

"I think Mark Wahlberg's going to kill it as Sully and it's going to be a lot of fun," he added.
