In contrast to Sony with its PlayStation Store, Nintendo with its eShop and Valve with Steam, Microsoft won't let independent developers self-publish on Xbox One.
At Digital Foundry, we're on record as being rather partial to the PlayStation Vita and while we've looked at major titles such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss and WipEout 2048, coverage opportunities have been limited - something we're acutely aware of and aiming to address in a series of upcoming pieces that delve deeply into the character and capabilities of the hardware.
Oddworld developers Just Add Water is plugging away at its upcoming Abe's Oddysee remake, New N' Tasty!, but it's unsure what game it wants to make after that, so it's asking fans for their input.
PC indie game Knytt arrives on PS3 and Vita (cross-buy) today in the shape of Knytt Underground. I've no idea what it is or how to pronounce it but Jeffrey thought it worth writing about. Costs £10.

Developers are cautiously optimistic over UK game industry tax breaks, announced yesterday as part of the new Budget.
The unfortunate decline of backwards compatibility on the current generation consoles has been mitigated somewhat by the rise of the HD remaster - the chance to revisit select gaming classics from years gone by, revitalised by the embarrassment of raw power on tap from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. High definition resolutions, enhanced artwork, improved audio, smoother frame-rates, stereoscopic 3D support... a good HD conversion sees the original game being handled with respect in its transition to more powerful hardware, accepting that sometimes a 720p facelift alone isn't enough, and that without care and attention, can actually diminish the impact of titles designed for the low-res CRT era.
Maybe I'm being wilfully perverse. It wouldn't be the first time. If the game of the week were determined by buzz or importance or sheer weight of numbers - of players, of man-years of effort, of many millions of dollars in budget, of hours of queuing for a precious spot on a live server - then this week it would unquestionably belong to Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Dungeon Defenders and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath head this week's EU PlayStation Store update.

"I wanted to first thank you all for your patience, it's been a long wait I guess, but at the same time it's been even longer for us," JAW boss Stewart Gilray wrote on the EU PlayStation Blog.
Editor's note: This HD remaster of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath for PS3 doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, but it's due to be released very soon on PlayStation Network. The price will be £9.99/€12.99/$14.99.
Just Add Water has done a beautiful job on Stranger's Wrath. It's rebuilt the character models, upgraded the audio and readied the textures for the scrutiny that comes with a 720p resolution. It's boosted the frame-rate to 60 frames per second, and it's even found the time to throw in new difficulty settings.
It's a lovely restoration, understated yet effective, and it emphasises the fact that, back in 2005, Oddworld Inhabitants did a beautiful job on Stranger's Wrath too. Half a decade later, this is still a sharp and fiercely inventive shooter that lets you loose in an unusually convincing fantasy world.

The developer behind The Oddboxx – a PC collection of the first four titles from Oddworld Inhabitants – has promised disgruntled fans it will fix the technical issues currently blighting two of the included games.
Steam's forum is littered with complaints from gamers upset about technical deficiencies found in Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath.
Eurogamer was alerted to the issue by reader Tyronne. "Oddysee is unplayable with a 360 controller and will crash and Wrath is slow and has resolution issues," he reported.
All four Oddworld games will soon see a PC release in the Oddbox pack, developer Oddworld Inhabitants has announced.
