Apple has revealed that games are the most popular paid-for applications on iPhone and iPod Touch, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

Of the top twenty premium applications, 70 per cent are games - Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D being the most sought-after of all. That game is also one of the most expensive on the list, matched only by SEGA's Super Monkey Ball at USD 5.99.

Other premium titles of note are Enigmo, Bejeweled 2, Moto Chaser, Flick Fishing and Tetris.

Free games, on the other hand, only make up 30 per cent of the top-twenty list. Tap Tap Revenge is the most popular of them, but falls behind Facebook, Google Earth and Pandora Radio in the overall free-app list.

Other free titles featured are Pac-Man Lite, Touch Hockey, Codify, Labyrinth Lite Edition and iBowl.

Apple's list differs from that of data collection specialist Comscore, which claims Tap Tap Revenge is the most popular iPhone and iPod Touch app of all.

"We count people, not the number of applications," Comscore speaker Jaimee Steele told GamesIndustry.biz. "[Apple] might count something twice if there's an update, for example. We might only see that once."
