I could start and end this piece with "not a lot" and be done with it. However, that really wouldn't clear up any confusion you may have surrounding PS5 pre-orders ahead of the console's launch later this year. We do have a few tidbits of info to share, though, if you want to be fully prepared to pre-order a PS5.
In brief: you should be able to place a PS5 pre-order relatively soon. Rumours have been swirling around for some time, but it now seems likely that an August event is going to bring Sony's big PS5 price and release date reveal. All those whispers and latest news get broken down in more detail below.
And while we won't go too in-depth on the actual make-up of the PS5 right here, you can read about all the console's features and more across the site. We've got pages dedicated to the PS5 specs, the PS5 console design, the new PS5 controller, the PS5 SSD and all the upcoming PS5 games. Now, let's get onto all the PS5 pre-order info you could possibly need ahead of the big day.
On this page:
When will PS5 pre-orders go live?
Currently, we don't know. There was a rumour swirling around a few weeks ago that suggested we'd be able to pre-order the PS5 from 14th July. However, that turned out to be a load of hokum, as the day went past without a peep from Sony.
Still, various retailers have put their PS5 pre-order placeholder pages live, if you wanted to register your interest. These include Amazon UK, Currys PC World, Game, Smyths Toys, Amazon US, GameStop, Walmart and more.
Since then, Sony's Worldwide Head of Marketing Eric Lempel has spoken in an interview to confirm that we'd be given a heads up with regards to PS5 pre-orders - it won't come as a surprise.
I think it's safe to say we'll let you know when preorder will happen. It's not going to happen with a minute's notice, said Lempel.
Thankfully, then, that should mean you won't need to frantically refresh store pages after every new rumour gets spread. Instead, save yourself the stress and keep an eye on Eurogamer or Jelly Deals as we'll be sure you bring you the latest PS5 pre-order news as soon as it happens.
How much will the PS5 cost?
Another question we don't have an answer to right now. But, don't worry, there's enough speculation on the PS5 price going around.
A lot of these assumptions are based on the price the PS4 launched at back in 2013 - that was £349 / $399. Now, given the significant amount of new tech and the considerable performance bump we can expect from the new console, it seems unlikely that the PS5 will retail for the same price. Many are assuming that the PS5 Digital Edition will retail for a little less than the standard console, though.
Meanwhile, the folks at Digital Foundry theorise that it won't be until 2020 when Sony will be able to keep the costs down.
Either way, if it's going to be more expensive to manufacture, will Sony charge more for the console? Or, will they take a hit and sell at a loss for the launch, while hoping to recoup the costs later down the line? I know which one I'm hoping for, but I'm fully expecting a PS5 pre-order to inflict considerable damage on my bank account.
Will there be any PS5 bundles?
Chances are there will be something, but don't expect to find many (if anything) that'll save you a lot of money. You can be sure that some stores will be offering the PS5 with a copy of a game like Spider-Man: Miles Morales or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Probably still at full price, though.
If you want any PS5 games to go with your new console then you'll probably be better off just buying them separately from any of your favourite stores. Or the store from which you place your PS5 pre-order. I doubt you'll see a situation where a game is thrown in for free alongside the console! If that does happen, though, I'll be sure to let you know about it right here!
And that's about all we have to go on right now. Remember to keep an eye on the Jelly Deals Twitter account as we'll be sharing any PS5 pre-order news as soon as it breaks. Until then, we await any new announcements with bated breath.
