Ubisoft has issued a warning to Rainbow Six Siege cheaters and hackers: you'll suffer a permanent ban on first offense.
Rainbow Six Siege, a multiplayer shooter, came out in December 2015, and has run up against a cheaters and hackers problem, particularly on PC where wallhacks and aimhacks are popular.
Now, Ubisoft has updated its code of conduct for the game, introducing a permanent ban on first offense for cheating and hacking.
"The presence of cheating in the game is something we take very seriously, and is a priority on the development team," reads a post on the Rainbow Six Siege website.
"This update is one step among many that we are working on to better engage with the community on this issue."
Here's what will get you a permanent ban on first offense, according to Ubisoft:
Cheating/Modding/Hacking: Player is running a modified or otherwise unauthorised version of the game client or a third party software which provides any sort of unfair advantage (wallhacks, aimhacks...) or causing detriment to other players' experience: Maximum penalty is permanent ban on first offense.
Ubisoft said that community reporting is difficult to make sense of with a game such as Rainbow Six Siege. Because of the destructibility, a player getting a head shot through a wall is pretty common. "This has potential to create a perception that someone is cheating," Ubisoft said.
To combat this, Ubisoft is working to differentiate reports of players who are coordinating with their team for information (how the game is meant to be played), and from someone who is maliciously altering the experience with third-party software. And the publisher encouraged players to continue to report cheaters with the in-game report button.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft said it was looking into several client-side anti-cheat options in addition to FairFight. One will be implemented in the future.
"We will be continuing to support the community on this issue, and we want to assure you that if a player is using cheating software, they are not welcome in Rainbow Six Siege."
