Dead Rising 2 and Off the Record arrive on Steamworks tomorrow

But DLC won't transfer from GFWL.

Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will be transitioning from Games for Windows Live to Steamworks tomorrow, Capcom has announced.

Capcom noted on its official blog that if you purchased a retail version of Dead Rising 2/Off the Record you can use the GFWL activation code to redeem it on Steam. However, if you purchased the games directly from GFWL's marketplace, you won't be able to make the transfer.

The Steamworks version of Dead Rising 2/Off the Record will contain all the usual Steam perks like matchmaking, Achievements, leaderboards, cloud saves, and trading cards.

The bad news is that the DLC won't make the transition to Steamworks. "Unfortunately, DLC content purchased directly from Microsoft's GFWL Marketplace store will not carry over to Steam due to the lack of CD/activation key," Capcom explained. "Those who wish to play the game with their DLC can continue to do so with the GFWL version of the game installation and under the GFWL service."

Also, the the GFWL save data and achievement migration tool won't be ready for Dead Rising 2's Steamworks launch tomorrow, though it should be available shortly.

"The tool will allow you to transfer progress from GFWL to Steam," Capcom said. "However, the game will require that you install and sign into the GFWL client since the game needs to authenticate unlocked Achievements recorded on the GFWL service. Those who wish to start the game from scratch can skip the GFWL client installation entirely since the save/Achievement migration is optional."

But fear not, GFWL users, as the game will remain playable with all its Live features and functionality on that platform.
