World in Conflict expansion for PC in March News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

22 January, 2009

Ubisoft plans to deploy World in Conflict expansion Soviet Assault for PC this March.

Shops will sell boxed copies containing both original World in Conflict game and expansion. Those who already own the RTS will be able download Soviet Assault online.

But where are the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions? "There's no news on any console version at the moment," a spokesperson for the publisher told Eurogamer this morning. This is strange, as the primary goal of Soviet Assault was to introduce World in Conflict to those machines..

We had, once upon a time, expected an Xbox 360 port of World in Conflict at the end of 2007, before then-publisher Sierra (Vivendi) decided to add a PS3 version for a simultaneous autumn 2008 release.

But when Vivendi merged with Activision, World in Conflict developer Massive Entertainment found their work in the 'do not want' pile.

Ubisoft came to the rescue last November, but we've heard nothing more of the action-focused war series until now.

World in Conflict: Soviet Assault relives the nervy Cold War through the eyes of the Red Army, and hangs a gritty story around new characters and films. There's plenty of extra maps to refresh multiplayer skirmishes, too.

World in Conflict burst onto PC back in autumn 2007, delivering very pretty destructive action freed by the absence of base-building.

Head over to our World in Conflict review for our glowing appraisal.

I'm guessing perhaps Ubisoft aren't bothering with the console versions as EndWar vastly underperformed? Or perhaps because Swordfish Studios were handling the port, and they're now under THQ's wing working on 50 Pence.

Anyway, I would like to see a console version at some point. I would in the very least rent it.

I was far more interested in this for consoles the Red Alert 3. Hopefully they manage to get it together sometime soon, as i have been itching to get back into RTS for a while now, after many years without, but can't stand playing games on my PC.

At pretty much the same time as DoW2 and the new Total War. Not so clever.

Maybe they are adding a voice control system similar to EndWar, I hope thats the reason for the delay on consoles. Shame EndWar didn't sell that great because it is an addictive game online, I hope it doesn't effect WIC getting a console release.

EndWar was brilliant, the online battles are incredibly fun. I'll probably buy this on PC, and then get it on 360 as well if it materialises there too.

They're very different sorts of RTS though so an expansion should do ok if it's decently priced, plus it's got awesome nukes.

Perhaps they arent interested in console versions of their RTS games because console versions of RTS games are complete shite?

Anyway looking forward to this, I did enjoy WiC. With my mouse.

PS3 supports mice.

It's only Mirosoft that're tards and refuse to spend 5 minutes putting a mouse driver in their console.
