Vesperia PS3 makes big impact in Japan

But Pokemon takes Gold and Silver.

The PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia has made a significant splash in the Japanese chart this week, selling nearly a quarter of a million copies (216,593) according to Media Create data.

Europe's had Vesperia on Xbox 360, remember, but the PS3 game comes with extras, ooh, extras.

A strong start, then, but not strong enough to displace Pokemon Soul Silver and Pokemon Heart Gold in first and second. Both now sit at around 950,000 units sold after just two weeks.

Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakkyou Portable 4 (PSP) is fourth and SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu Goddess of Destiny (DS) is fifth.

Elsewhere, Bethesda's Wet caught our eye at 31, which is one space below House of the Dead: Overkill at 30. However, with the games that far down the number of units sold (not mentioned by M-Create) could be well under 10,000.

Pokemon's dominance means DS tops the hardware pile again with 79,628 units sold, although Tales of Vesperia helps PS3 hardware to 51,055.

Far below we find PSP and Wii, with 21,073 and 16,698 units sold each. Down at the bottom, Xbox 360 and PS2 scrape 4965 and 2723 sales respectively.

So one week of Vesperia PS3 sales has been Vesperia LTD for 360!
  • darkphoenix #4 2 years ago

Vesperia is a great RPG, it deserves a lot more than the poor X360 sales.
  • giant_frying_pan #5 2 years ago

After eleventy bajillion units sold of Pokemon on the various handheld platforms, I can't believe they *still* haven't done a proper home console version.
  • GamesConnoisseur #6 2 years ago

Poor 360 sales in Japan is NOT shocking when X360 consoles is low in Japan as well known. All know X360 only appeals to the very few for whatever reasons and yes glad that the game is getting a wider audience. Equally FFXIII also on X360 outside of Japan means more people to appreicate the game innit?!

Enjoyed Tales of Vesperia and loved the casual dialogues as give characters more life and backstory.
  • alimokrane #7 2 years ago

Divide the ToV sales on 360 by installed base in Japan and do the same for the PS3. You'll pretty much en up with the same ratios.
  • neonemesis #8 2 years ago

Looks like the 360 needs another pervy anime dating-sim type thing to boost sales again ;)
  • NotSoSlim #9 2 years ago

Good sales for PS3...will probably settle at 25k a week then rise end of the year with FF13 and depending on games stay over the 50k mark from there!!

    Tales PS3 in Europe please
  • makeamazing #10 2 years ago

the massive fall in ps3 slim sales after only a few weeks. give it another fortnight it will be at around 15k a week or so as i predicted, which at the time i was ridiculed for saying.

No you were ridiculed for being a muppet... nothing more nothing less :)

Seriously common sense knows something new comes out, high sales, then less people buy so sales fall. Your a genius Donnie...lol

Anyway before you start patting yourself on the back, perhaps you should wait a few weeks...eh!
  • No1_Dave #11 2 years ago

donnie still don't know why he's getting ridiculed...

    /sigh
  • Goodfella #12 2 years ago

Poor donnie, so desperate to see the PS3 fail it's embarassing.
  • Diomedes #13 2 years ago

Good sales for Vesperia ,this will show Namco and other japanese developers that even if MS moneyhats them to bring their games to the 360 the logic solution is bringing them directly to the PS3 and receive directly the money from the consumers and not from bribing ...er ,incentives from one of the players of the industry.

Massive sales for Pokemon. As always .

As for hardware ,the PS3 remains strong for the third week.If it can stabilize in 30-40K units weekly then we can see it taking over Japan for sure.Even a bit less ,25-30K,would be enough considering the actual situation of the japanese market.
  • NotSoSlim #14 2 years ago

    @Donnie

360 price cut had a longer effect?? In Japan lol we don't know US figures until end of the month so how can you say the dip has been so drastic??

1.2 million in 4 weeks in immense for anyone!! Japan buy the consoles when the games get released or have you not noticed?? As I stated 25k a week til FF will suit Sony as before it was about 10k...facts are PS3 will sell more worldwide due to FF alone!! Sony probably want 1 million consoles just off that game

    All my opinion of course

Donnie you cant even get my name right...lol. Epic Fail.

As for the sales at the moment, they are holding up well in Japan, worldwide they are still nearly double the Xbox, so whats your point? The MS price cut had very little impact, so that would tell me that there were people wanting to jump on the Sony bandwagon when it decreased in price, but the pricecut should have had the same impact on the Xbox then ? or are you just ignoring that fact.

What will be more interesting will be if there is a sales spike for the Nintendo when it decreases in price. Anyway we are now moving into the Xmas period, so hopefully all three consoles sell well, as lets be honest there is something good for everyone in each console.

but i do think MSOFT deserve to win this gen because of their online/great software

You are allowed your opinion but stop ranting it in nearly every single post, its getting boring. You claim you have a PS3 but to be honest it sounds like you keep it locked up in the cellar or something. I guess this is your excuse to post in every single PS3 topic and say how wonderful you think MS is.

The name part was on purpose MIKEAMAZING

Ah I see, your as young and imature as I thought you were... well thanks for confirming that :)

apart from a few exclusives its been a disaster for both sony and its fans

Well somehow I dont think your a fan. Also you do know that your opinion does not equal global fact. I have lots of games and enjoy the PS3 alot, and many other people do also, Im guessing the 1 million who have purchased one in the last 3 weeks like it to... but you seem to want to ignore the fact that other people can enjoy playing a product.

Ive got an idea for you, if you hate Sony and the product that much, sell it, and then stop posting on PS3 posts. Its pretty simple really. Let the rest of us live in peace of your stupid rantings.
  • aine #17 2 years ago

@giant_frying_pan - they haven't because they don't want to. the series was designed from handhelds from the outset - thats why its called "pocket" monsters. it was always supposed to be something you could carry around with you and trade/battle with people wherever your happen to be, a home console version would kind of ruin that. a good online mode might go some way to alleviating this problem but i honestly couldn't see that happening under nintendo's current policies.
  • NotSoSlim #18 2 years ago

I really do hate when people try and speak for other people...yes you donnie!! Many people are more than happy at just having a PS3 and dint see it as a failure!! 1.2m in 4 weeks is immense no matter if your a fanboy or not...PS3 is here to stay n it's what gamers need...competition!!!

Roll on 2010....the year for gamers not fanboys

  • MeBrains #20 2 years ago

donnie?! how many times do we need to ask you: just which disaster are you referring to? Sony's PS3 is doing quite well and even more so with the Slim's advent.

then, my opinion on your "I think MS deserves to win" - I have a competing view. I think MS deserves to lose: they knowingly put defective hardware on the market and I think they should be bloody punished only for that fact alone. Most companies do a product recall with defect ratio's far lower than 360's staggering 50%-ish - all MS did was offer a pretty bog-standard 3y warranty for RROD alone. Does the above mean I disrespect MS completely?! Not at all, in fact I think MS is quite an amazing company, but what they did with 360 has gone a bridge too far IMHO. If us consumers allow a company to ship defective product - where the hell will this end?!? I do not like that precedent.
  • mr_ruberfon #21 2 years ago

@ Notso slim - irony overload:
"I really do hate when people try and speak for other people...yes you donnie!! Many people are more than happy at just having a PS3 and dint (SIC) see it as a failure!" and "what gamers need...competition!!!" Thanks for talking for us fatty
  • NotSoSlim #22 2 years ago

    @ mr_ruberfron

No problem lol and i aint fat

    The cheek...happy gaming!! :o)
  • miiiguel #23 2 years ago

@ MeBrains : So you have a 360? Don't get me wrong, but I find that "MS is an amazing company, my problem is with the 360" a bit, thin. You are on every 360 thread, and I never, ever read a positive comment about it. So, do you have one?
  • MeBrains #24 2 years ago

miiiiguel: I do not have a 360 now and I will never have. I will not buy it now, as the games for PS3 to me seem more interesting - that is _to me_. I will never have 360, because of what I have written already quite a few times: I do not think _any_ consumer electronics company should get away as easy as MS did with its RROD. I REFUSE to buy stuff which is known to break, I refuse endorsing that. It is the same reason why I am not keen on buying any toy except Lego, Playmobil and games for the kids (although there clearly are exceptions). So, IMHO, what MS did with 360, is despicable - plain and simple. A bog standard 3y warranty I even get in Aldi really does not suffice...

I do respect MS. In dealings working for a major OEM of them, they have always been very very professional, well-trained and helpful. They listen to their customers and are able to innovate. Their software - since W2K - is top-notch and so is Live. The latter being the only thing I respect its 360 for. Hardly any games though. I played the first Halo on PC and although it had rave reviews, I thought it was boring. Playing FPS's on console, is not for me - I am not trained enough I suppose. So Gears is out as well. The rest?! As mentioned: not for me. I will buy PS3 when the last guardian is out - its two predecessors having been the most entertaining games I have played during the last decade.

You seem to be rather supporting the platform I do not, yet you as well seem to be in every other thread about PS3? How's that then uh?!

edit: never ever positive?! you maybe missed this example: http://ww w.eurogamer.net/articles/micros... - quite positive.
and this one: http://ww w.eurogamer.net/articles/micros... - starting positive, then stating that i do not believe in 1080p on demand. Is that negative?

...at your advice to donnie: "if you hate Sony and the product that much, sell it, and then stop posting on PS3 posts. Its pretty simple really. Let the rest of us live in peace of your stupid rantings."

    +1.

I really wish he would cease and desist. He is getting really tiresome, like a mosquito buzzing around my ears...
