Tim Curry to star in Dragon Age: Origins News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Ellie Gibson

28 August, 2009

Tim Curry, Hollywood legend and object of Eurogamer's erotic affections, has signed up to star in another EA game.

Curry will play "calculating villian" Arl Rendon Howe in Dragon Age: Origins. Apparently he is "cultured and charming, with an insatiable lust for power, who never hesitates to harm anyone who gets in his way". Bit like Frank N. Furter then, though probably with less pearls.

The Rocky Horror Show star is no stranger to videogames, having previously appeared in Red Alert 3 and recorded a voiceover for Brutal Legend. He was kind enough to give us an interview last year, during which we barely held it together.

Also joining the cast of Dragon Age is Captain Janeway out of Star Trek, who will play a powerful witch. She's accompanied by Tim Russ, who was in Voyager too, and Stargate's Claudia Black.

Dragon Age: Origins will launch on PC and Xbox 360 on 6th November, with the PS3 version to follow.

Tim Curry seems to be EA's go-to guy for villains these days. Which is awesome.

"Legend"

Pun entirely intended... Tim Curry has one of the best voices in the business.

Stargate's Claudia Black? True, but to me she will always be Farscape's Aeryn Sun

His acting made me cringe in Red Alert 3. Then again so did Gemma Atkinson's, but she's pretty as well.. the same can't be said for Tim Curry.

Stargate's Claudia Black?! Why not Farscape's Claudia Black?
Ellie seems to have missed Farscape entirely.
Also, let's point that Kate Mulgrew is the real name for captain Janeway, okay?!
Getting back to this piece of news, it certainly looks like Dragon Age will get some very good voice-acting and that's fine with me. As for the rest ( you know, story, gameplay mechanics and such), it's up to Bioware.

Mmmm. Claudia Black. (I won't say Mmmm. Tim Curry too even though it'd be very Rocky Horror to do so)

Urrgh. Janeway. One of the scratchiest, least attractive voices around doing voice overs... oh wait, she's playing a witch. Good casting :p

Pretty sure she's got a proper name rather than "Voyagers Janeway" too. You gave everyone elses real names. Why omit hers?

Tim Curry has a great voice, but can be slightly cheesy in his actual acting. So video games fit him perfectly! Actually interested in this game now.....

Tim Curry is indeed a legend, but yeah, he'll never escape being Frank N. Furter in Rocky Horror. He IS and forever will be Frank. Still, cheesy as he can be, there is no denying he seems to cultivate a rabid fanbase, made larger by his increasingly large presence in voice acting games.

Although it must be said, Holly Valance does get my "Best actress in a game" by a long stretch, she wasn'tt great but phwoarrrrrrr...

I love Claudia Black for playing Vala Maldoran in STARGATE.

Tim Russ!! That's Tuvok! He's cool, funny in Fresh Prince in that minor role!

lol janeway is a terrible actress, hope it's a minor role. tim curry on the other hand should be playing a player character so you can hear his voice all through the game.

@SirDespard: Seconded. Aeryn Sun should never be forgotten (even though it was wonderful indeed to see her and Ben Browder team up again in Stargate)

Tim Curry rocks! A great actor with a very distinctive voice and mannerism who has the rare gift of being able to do comedy and drama with aplomb. I've loved every movie he's been in from the sublime Rocky Horror Picture Show through to Legend and It (the latter where he was downright terrifiying as Pennywise the clown) right through to the excellent adapation of The Colour of Magic.

Yeah I've got to say I never really rated Janeway as an actress - definitely channel 5 weekday afternoon film standard. Not like Patrick "I've seen everything" Stewart!

P.S. To previous poster, I thought the Colour of Magic adaption was absolute bilge if it's the thing with Sean Astin?!
