    Waste of time.

Just prolongs the association of PS3 with being expensive. Stick to one cheap SKU which the supermarkets can flog at £220.

Well Sony has to make money on something.

How many people with slims are going to part-exchange for the bigger HDD?
I was going to get a slim on 29th september, but i might wait a couple of days.
On second thoughts screw that. Too much money for a slightly bigger HDD...

Its not that bad considering your getting double the space.
  • GreyBeard #6 2 years ago

Its actually decent value though, considering its only £35 on top of a stock PS3 you are getting £40 of software and a HD double the size of the normal SKU.

Retailers could add further stuff to sweeten the pot too... pretty good deal imho.

so, you pay £35 for an extra 130GB of storage space? OK, i admit that the option is interesting to have, but Sony would be wise to bring back a 40GB machine and cut the price down to £200- £220. While i have filled up over 120GB on my ps3, not everyone will! create a budget machine aimed towards family's and kids!

I think that's a very good price, it's only £35 more than the RRP for the 120 GB model yet offers over twice the storage space. Not everyone feels comfortable with replacing an HDD but, at least, Sony aren't robbing them if they choose to buy one. Good stuff, Sony!

@theiceman - There be no point in swapping a 120 GB HDD PS3 for a 250 GB HDD one as you can pick up a third-party 250 GB HDD for around the same as, perhaps less, than what it would cost you extra to swap anyway. If you opt to fit a larger third-party HDD then you can use buy a shell for the 120 GB HDD (which cost around £8) and use it as a backup drive. ;)

Why pay £285 for a full system with software bundles when you can save a whopping £60 an get a poorly designed handheld?

    ;-)

Is Wolverine really the best they could come up with?
  • Gaol #12 2 years ago

If you aren't comfortable replacing the PS3 HDD you really ought to be looking at the new Wii bundles; they have much more content for the hard of thinking.

If you do a trade in with game or the likes do you have to give them a pad with it. Just weighing up all the potential benefits of doing this: Unchartered 2 (which i will buy anyway) 190GB HDD extra, warranty + extra pad????

"multiple skus didnt do Microsoft any harm. "

How do you know that? Maybe if they had stuck to a single SKU they would have RULED THE WORLD.

    :D

    Glad they didn't then.

Why would making it out of white plastic make it a ‘premium’ model?

£285 for double the hard drive and Uncharted 2 is fine though.

Got my slim on launch for £230, seems daft to pay £55 extra just for more hdd space, im hardly pressed for it at the moment.
  • Bravestinsane #18 2 years ago

Thats a good deal, supprised me actually i thought Sony being sonny would fork up the price a fair bit but hats not to bad.
  • Sonic_D #19 2 years ago

Hmmm, kinda wish I waited a bit longer to buy one now! The extra space would have been useful and I've not used my Slim that much this last month.

EDIT: To all those saying they got their 120Gb Slims for £220-230 and this is too much more to ask, £285 is the SRP, just like £250 was for the 120Gb model. So for a proper comaprison you will have to see what kind of price the retailers are selling for, I estimate £265-270

I'm surprised so many people started to moan about the 'expensive' £285 'Just' for an extra 130GB HDD space. If you read the Title properly then you would have figured out that it is a BUNDLE offer i.e. with games/movies etc. So, you get a game free with that. Game had put an estimated price of £299 for the uncharted + 250 GB HDD so to hear this CHEAPER price is enticing really and i will get the Uncharted 2 bundle. Only Petulant_Radish commented on this being a bundle offer.
So in terms of getting a £45 or so quid game along with increased HDD space for a mere £35 is a very good deal indeed compared to the standalone £250 RRP of the PS3 slim.

Looks like they actually got one right!

Bundle looks like good value to me. If you use your PS3 for all it has to offer that space gets used up pretty fast. I love my PS3
