PSP Gran Turismo lives News

PSP News by Tom Bramwell

8 October, 2007

Polyphony Digital has reiterated that it plans to return to its PSP Gran Turismo project once it has done a bit more for PS3.

Speaking to GamePro in an interview spotted by Kotaku, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said the team would get back to it "probably after GT5".

"We are working on it, and we will get around to it eventually," he said.

GT for PSP - once known as Gran Turismo 4 Mobile - was pretty heavily billed in the system's early days, but just over a year ago Polyphony said that it was setting the project aside until it had finished a GT title for PS3.

Claiming it had the game at "the stage where a GT4 equivalent runs on the PSP", the developer said that once a PS3 GT was out of the way, it would "return to, and jump-start, development for the PSP version".

In the mean time we've had Gran Turismo HD Concept arrive on PlayStation Network, while Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is due out on Blu-ray and PSN later this year.

GT5 is expected some time after that.

Very strange considering it was a couple of years ago I saw "final" UMD artwork for this. Was convincing enough for my friend to buy a PSP almost exclusively to play GT Mobile which he thought would follow in a couple of months.

2 years later and he has sold his PSP and still no sign of this. It's almost as though that UMD pic I saw was total bullshit but Sony wouldn't fabricate stuff would they?

Found myself suckered by the Gran Turismo Mobile artwork and 'video' Sony showed in the early days of the PSP. Don't worry, I thought, as I bought my PSP and found myself bored of GTA Liberty City Stories in a week, GT Mobile will be here in a few weeks...

...I really should have known better.

I too bought a PSP for GT mobile and have since sold the shiny black doorstop.

If your daft enough to listen to anything about a sony product you will get let down, no rumble on ps3 as "impossible"

Will buy the GT PSP pack for £50 in a couple of years time :)

OK, so everyone is agreed that the GT4-quality video that Sony showed in 2005 must have been a real, honest-to-goodness demo running natively on the PSP (and in no way just some fake video they'd created the day before), right? Sony being noted for their transparency and lack of mendacity, etc.

So, why don't they release that demo code to tide PSP owners over until the full release? They could even sell it as a retail title, and call it, oh I don't know ... "GT Mobile Prologue"? Then GT 'enthusiasts' could show how much they love the series by paying again for the full title when it eventually arrives.

Or does that seem too much like a flagrantly brazen money-grubbing scam for anyone to take seriously?

EDIT: correction, the GT Mobile demo was in 2004 o_O

Its a real shame they can't be arsed to make this. Maybe now they will let us PSP owners download GT1 instead?!
