PS3 secures exclusive Mafia II DLC

An offer you can't refuse?

The first batch of downloadable Mafia II content will be exclusive to PlayStation 3, 2K Games has announced.

First-hand buyers will be supplied with a voucher to download The Betrayal of Jimmy for free. But buy second-hand and you'll need to spend £6.29.

Is this 2K Games' answer to EA's Project Ten Dollar?

The second batch of DLC - Jimmy's Vendetta - will be offered on all three Mafia II platforms: PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Betrayal of Jimmy shows the mob through Jimmy's eyes. He's the man the mafioso calls when a 'difficult' job needs doing. For Jimmy there are a "dozen" missions based around rampaging through the city causing loads of mayhem. Scores will be recorded and posted automatically to leaderboards.

Jimmy's Vendetta, meanwhile, follows Jimmy while he attempts to clean up other people's messes in new locales and missions. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

Mafia II will be released on 27th August for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

    Wasn't this announced at Sony's E3 conference?

Soooo, because I made a certain purchasing decision years ago, I get LESS of a game today?

    Fine, fuck you too.
  • ronuds #4 2 years ago

For the last few years it's been MS securing all of this exclusive content.

Maybe they're not going after it anymore because it didn't prove to give them any kind of advantage?

"Soooo, because I made a certain purchasing decision years ago, I get LESS of a game today?"

I'll be feeling the exact same way when Dead Rising 2 comes out and I don't get the prologue because I don't have an XBox
  • Shikasama #6 2 years ago

Acrid - I'm not defending any company doing anything like this. It's just as ridiculous when MS do it to PS players as the other way round.

What do they honestly think will happen?

'Oh, that piece of 30 minute DLC only comes on that console but I have the other one. I'll spend 250 plus the price of the game and get that one then.'
  • digoutyoursoul #7 2 years ago

of course with the fanboys with the recent ps3 exclusive multiplat stuff it will be arguing over sony should start with a $ from now on or not. looking forward to this game anyway, hope its not boring.

In likelihood they probably think that people who own multiple formats will go for the PS3 version. I imagine that is the main reason they do this sort of thing. I'm sure it works with a lot of people and I'm sure most PS3 owners also own an Xbox anyway so as annoying as this sort of practice is it certainly is a sound way to get people to buy the game on PS3. I would never consider buying this game on PS3 otherwise... but now it at least makes me contemplate buying it instead of the £15 cheaper PC version.

yeah its a shame as i am looking forward to Mafia 2,and i do wish the 360 was getting the DLC as well, but i guess them the breaks

its the Dead Space Extraction port with Dead Space 2 on the ps3 i am pissed off about..sure i heard its a crap game and on rails etc,but its free for PS3 peeps :(

@Acrid....the Dead Rising 2 prologue(or whatever its called) apparently bridges the story of Dead Rising 1 to Dead Rising 2,and as Dead Rising 1 never appeared on the PS3,i guess it wont be anything that you will really miss, especially as it will prolly be about 1200+ points

PC version for me, just like the original. I look forward to seeing what modders will do after release.
  • madjim #11 2 years ago

I can't remember a more anticipated game than this one. And since I want every DLC available, I will definitely buy the PS3 version. Hope the game is at least as good as the first one.
  • Miths #12 2 years ago

Is this game coming out already next month? Great. I had somehow gotten into my head that it had been delayed until next year. Or maybe that was last year and I'm even more terrible at keeping track of time than I thought? :)

Wow, now secure something newsworthy, like Monster Hunter, and I'll be impressed :/

if this is in response to the timed exclusive GTA4 DLC on 360 it's pretty lame...

17 comments and noone's raved about the Mafa typo in the article title? Odd.
  • napalm68 #18 2 years ago

Yeah, either way an exclusive goes (and it does usually go XBox way due to MS handing out the $$$s) I can't see the point other than to annoy the majority of gamers who'd only have the one system. The only benefit is to tip the balance for people that have both consoles - and to the game company, who cares which system they buy it for?

Thanks uuniao; great argument, well said.

Colour me uninterested - I have never bought any DLC, and I never will. I hate the business model which gives you only part of the game for full price (especially when the content is already on the disk and is unlocked by a £7 code) then tries to prize even more cash from me for horse armour ... i'll happily buy a good complete expansion for a game I have enjoyed, but new missions, new armour, new guns, maps, etc ... just doesn't cut it for me.

And if they release map packs which stops me playing with the rest of the community then it is the last time I buy one of their games.

Stop pissing around with your customer base.

Only people hurting re the Dead Rising 2 exclusive prologue on the X360, are those who played Dead Rising 1 on the X360 but since sold the console and 'upgraded' themselves to the PS3.

They however small or large would certainly love to get the prologue that are denied to the PS3 only owners?

Still, have always said DLC exclusives to stink and wishes they would stick to the full game exclusives.

"it wasn't on my hype metre at all. I'd think gt5 and Reach are far more ancicipated surely? "

    wat

Fanboy driven games with no basis for hype other than the strange ability to sell mediocrity to people that pay for their gold accounts with an allowance. Nobody anybody respects anticipates either of those games.

Exclusive DLC really annoys me no matter which platform it's on.

Nice though it is to be given the opportunity to experience this content because I bought what the publisher feels is the correct console three years ago the whole affair is still total BS and doesn't reflect well on the publishers who take this route.

@GamesConnoisseur: don't forget the people who were looking forward to the much touted PS3 port of Dead Rising 1 that never materialised. To not get the first one and then not get the prologue either is a kick in the nuts to PS3 owners who want to get in on the franchise that for them starts with a sequel.

I'm not convinced by the word 'exclusive' these days. Rockstar paid god knows how much for the GTA4 DLC to be exclusive, yet it was released for the other formats eventually; and when I bought the Assassin's Creed 2 Black Edition I was informed I was receiving exclusive in-game content which later was available as DLC.

So, do I buy Mafia II on 360 and assume that the DLC will turn up eventually, or do I wait until I own a PS3 (i.e. when The Last Guardian is released)?

I don't buy many games on release day, but Mafia II was all set to be my first >£30 purchase of the year.

Really? Who said it's shit? It's got a blinding average review score and everyone I know who has played it has said it's one of the most atmospheric games on the Wii. When I played it, it made me jump more than once. The graphics are top notch, the atmosphere (particularly sound) is spot-on.

Oh I get it, it's a Wii game so it must be shit.
