PS3 Bayonetta gets HDD install option

But only in Japan for now.

The Japanese PS3 version of Bayonetta will receive a patch tomorrow enabling hard-drive installs. You'll be able to do the honours through the in-game menu.

SEGA hopes this will shorten the long loading times that PS3 fans have been complaining about.

We're investigating the whereabouts of a European patch.

For Xbox 360 owners, Bayonetta can already be installed to hard-drive using the system's Dashboard options.

Bayonetta was released in early January and earned a hearty 9/10 here on Eurogamer. Head over to our Bayonetta review to find out why.

How did this get released without this option? It's been installed to my 360 from Day 1 and I was shocked to learn how bad the game seems to be for PS3 users... The framerate of the PS3 version alone gives me migraines, but longer load times are insult on top of injury. As an aside, why the hell didn't they render the cutscenes at the best quality they could achieve and stick them on all that extra disc space as video instead of doing them in-engine and taking a huge performance hit? Waste of a BD if you ask me... This just seems a sloppier and sloppier port.

the nice thing about using non-video cut-scenes is, I guess, the insertion of whatever costume/character you're actually playing as into the action.

the bad thing about using non-video cut-scenes, I guess, is the insertion of those dizzyingly annoying QTE with no forewarning.

I realise why they did it the same on PS3 as on 360, but when the end result is it dropping half the frames in those cutscenes, you have to ask if it was worth it...

Good news ! Thing about frame rate drops...I don't realize whether a game is 60FPS or 30FPS to be honest...the annoying load times was a no no for me.
As a PS3 only owner I can finally buy the thing while I'm waiting for God of War III, along with Darksiders and Dante's Inferno.

I really need to get a 360, not only for its awesome exclusives but also for games like this where the PS3 version is unfortunately inferior.

@Sunyavadin: Actually, the cutscenes are a pretty constant 30fps on both systems. They really are the least of the PS3 version's problems. It's the actual gameplay where the PS3 suffers, averaging 30-40fps whilst the 360 version gets 50-60.

Once (if) they can sort the PS3 version's framerate I'll pick this up in the bargain bins.
  • Sunyavadin #7 2 years ago

Yeah, it's well worth it. I just feel everyone ought to get the same quality experience. I know I'd still have bought it if I was a PS3 owner.

    'Alternative developer' option?
  • ThemisB #9 2 years ago

Not good enough. Would have been a day 1 purchase for me, and I've been holding off to see if the patch announced did anything about the framerate (then I wouldn't mind the blurry graphics nearly as much) but I can't bring myself to spend the same money on such an inferior version. I might be picking up a 360 at some point, Bayonetta will have to wait until then.

Here's hoping they've learnt a lesson for their next game.

Blame Sega themselfs for doing a rushed port as the ps3 version isn't done by the orginal devs, it's another '3rd party'... money is on Bayonetta was only going to be a 360 excluive yet probly Sony threw money at Sega and/or Sega just saw a way for more profit quickly...

It's a shame really as it's a DAMN good title, shame Sega and Sony just threw our option of choice away and basically handed MS more money, to all those PS3 only owners out there, I hope there is a patch soon as this is one of those that has to be played

Bayonetta is an absolutely wonderful game. I got a Xbox360 just to play this game. If you only have a PS3, then it is still worth getting this game. It's really that good of a game.
