Activision is planning to release Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on 9th November in Europe for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
A senior brand manager let the news slip during a press event this week, and although Activision UK representatives could only confirm "winter" the view from retail is that this is the date for which they are gunning.
CoD4 has won all sorts of plaudits since its unveiling earlier this year, not only having abandoned World War II as a setting in favour of something a bit more contemporary, but also having improved itself visually to a huge extent with pretty spectacular animation and a narrowly focused palette that helps achieve a much more realistic overall visual effect.

Look out for more on the game soon - hopefully including some more impressions from Games Convention in Leipzig, which runs from 22nd to 26th August.

It seems to be coming along just as well as the the others from what I hear. They seemed near insulted when asked whether it was a problem or not.

Unless it uses the Unreal Engine 3, I don't think the PS3 will be delayed myself, not that it bothers me as I plan on buying it for the 360 for the rumble support and improved anti-aliasing (which seems to be the PS3's weakness I feel based on the multiformat games I've tried on both my 360 and my PS3).

I'd have bought it for my PC too but I'm not sure mine would be able to handle the graphics at the detail level of the quite frankly amazing-looking 360 one, which likely runs at 60 fps with v-sync on and 2X AA if Call of Duty 2 is anything to go by. I have Call of Duty 2 for my PC and although it runs well at full detail at 1680x1050 and 2X AA, it doesn't run at 60 fps, more like 30-40 tops.

So it should... ;)
... the point I was making is that after playing the 360 version of CoD 2, I really noticed the difference in the framerate going to the PC version so that's why I'm just buying the Xbox 360 version this time round. I only bought the PC version for £10 to play it online and in that respect it was massively superior to the lacklustre 360 mode. Since I'm no longer interested in playing games online, the 360 version will do me fine for the single player campaign. |

Oh looky. Yet another AAA title coming out in the Automn. This is insane. There are so many great games coming out within a 6-8 week window its not even funny. Why does the gaming industry do this? Do they never learn? No other entertainment medium is as season orientated as the gaming industry. CUT IT OUT! PLEASE!
Oh as for which version, PC for me although I have a PS3 the PC version will be the one to go for IMHO. |

@GordonBennett - They are annoying, yes, but I've never been a huge fan of online games on the consoles anyway. I usually play them more on the PC and then it's only games like Halo (years ago though!), Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament and Quake that I bother with. Also I have hearing problems which kind of leaves me at a disadvantage when I play online games on the 360 as everyone expects you to use the headset yet I rarely bother with it. As a result I tend to stick with simple deathmatch modes and racing games where communication isn't really a requirement.

What's with all the pretty good (assuming) FPS's coming out this late summer/autumn time. I didn't even realise Bioshock was coming out so soon, and to be honest it's more intriguing right now than Halo 3, to me. And I can't afford to splash out £40 even twice any time soon, I think Bioshock might do me soon as my next game purchase since Forza (which I'm bored of playing except occasional blasts trying to get faster times in free run).
