DICE reacts to BF2142 issues

Some solutions, some pledges.

EA and Digital Illusions (DICE) have moved to calm concerns about the current state of Battlefield 2142 after players experienced a number of issues during the game's first few days on sale.

In an update to the game's official forum, DICE said it was aware of issues where stats and awards weren't properly registered, problems with PunkBuster anti-cheat technology and EA Master Server disconnects, and "will continue to update everyone on our status until these issues are resolved".

"Last weekend we made updates that resolved the issues causing some awards or stats to not be properly awarded to players," it said on the first point. "Unfortunately any stats or awards not received before this update can not be replaced."

It also advised players to visit the PunkBuster website and go through the manual update procedure to sort out any lingering issues there, adding, "We are currently working with PunkBuster to resolve player issues and allow for a smoother experience and to eliminate server kick issues that are still affecting some players."

Finally, "We have added additional enhancements to our server infrastructure to eliminate the majority of the disconnection problems. We will be putting forth every effort through the weekend to completely eliminate this issue for all our players."

Hopefully poor reviews will give EA the firm message that releasing unfinished games just isn't acceptable.

True. The deadlines they're giving DICE for their games are a bit... um... impossible?

After the initial issues with my stats not registering the game actually has work pretty well for me. I play it on my Dell 9400 with a GeForce 7900GS and I've yet been disconencted during games and my stats are now registering pretty quick.

The game is growing on me. Some of the maps are really great with chokepoints where you got huge battles. And the Titan mode is also starting to be fun. I only played Conquest first but now I rather play Titan.

The game is currently unplayable - I get about 5-20 seconds of play when connected to a server before getting "your connection to the server has been lost".

That is, if I can connect at all, 50% of the time trying to join a game results in the marvelously descriptive "Error" dialog.

Its fun when it works, but I think the 'BF' in BF2142 stands for Buggy as FUCK.

    Very, Very poor.

Voice comms still isn't working properly in BFMC2 for the 360.

A buggy BF game 'NO' your kidding me, and they have been so code efficient before.

Seriously though you shouldn't be surprised that any of this is happening. Either EA have nutsack death grips on Dice and have been angrily squeezing this game from them in unrealistic time periods or Dice do not have the expertise and manpower to deliver a finished product.

I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Ive been disconnected a few times in games, its not too frequent though thank god.

By and large Ive been enjoying the game, its a bit annoying they couldnt retro-issue awards though as I had an amazing round in one of those rail-gun turrets a couple of days after lauch, probably good enough to get one of the 2nd tier awards (im talking kill streak of like 25) can I do that again ever? can i fuck! :(

I've discovered that generally means that the server has reserved slots so you cant join.

Apart from that and some problems over the weekend its working fine for me now. Stats up date almost instantly. Its definately a grower and not a game to be dismissed out of hand, I was very negative in my initial impressions but now I love it. When its working, (which it seems to be now) its better than BF2 but I do have to ask one thing....

WHERE ARE THE JETPACKS DICE?!! WHERE ARE THE FUCKING JETPACKS?!

As much as I like the BF games I refusing to buy or play this one for one reason only...the bloody spyware included..

If they removed this feature they'd have a sale with me...but they need their in game advertising more than what the end user wants i guess...
  • Steroyd #11 5 years ago

awe shoot and i was planning on getting my first BF game in the near future. :(
  • magicpanda #12 5 years ago

Im going to sound like a fanbwai :( but the advertising thing isnt really spyware and its done well enough to fit into the game nicely. Not a big issue imo apart from the gateway it opens for other publishers to fuck up games with the same kind of thing but no doubt do it really badly.

You dont even notice it tbh there is far far to much death going on :)
  • Scurrminator #13 5 years ago

well the ads havent been activated yet so no, you wouldn't notice them!
  • PearOfAnguish #14 5 years ago

What about reacting to the fact that the game is utter, utter shite?

awe shoot and i was planning on getting my first BF game in the near future. :(

Get yourself a copy of the BF 1942 collection and download Desert Combat and Forgotten Hope.

Bloody excellent game and definately the best in the bF series so far !
  • CatWeazle #16 5 years ago

    > Just like BF2 then, buggy as hell. (fun though)

Nope, far far worse than BF2. At least with BF2 you could play your newly purchased game for more than 3 mins without being disconnected. The release of BF2142 has been seriously rushed & botched. What a shame.

And this is before we even go into the dubious issues of inbuilt spyware, in-game advertising, and the requirement to unlock even the most mundane items of weaponry - meaning the game is seriously biased against the casual gamer.

I wonder how much of this is EA's fault for leaning on DICE over the release date?

"EA - 101 ways to decimate the value of the company you bought" with special guests appearances by Crtiterion and DICE.
  • WrongShui #19 5 years ago

Game is great, runs fine for the most part. Some tweaking in titan mode needed though, grenade spam pretty much stops an assualt.

I have the BF game on the 360 and never play it... Very bad......!!!!!!

I was very interested in this and am thinking of getting it for my new PC.

    Do i get it..?
  • PearOfAnguish #21 5 years ago

    Do i get it..?

    No. Get BF2 or BF1942.

    'EA server disconnects'

    Now thats a new one.....

No point in getting it on 360 when released then, same old EA problem disconnecting. Yet EA still (after 2 or 3 years) deny it's anything to do with their servers even though no other servers have the problem. Oh why did valve have to give EA the right to distribute half life 2 for 360? RIP Team Fortress 2.

  • Merefield #23 5 years ago

Yeah, even after YEARS of patches, i still get regular BF2 disconnections. Most frustrating when you've JUST got into THAT zone and ur racking up kills, your adrenaline flowing, and ....

    DISCONNECTED

Then you desperately try to reconnect and 30 secs of a game is all you get before you're

    DISCONNECTED

Disgraceful EA never properly fixed this. I know of no other multiplayer game i play which suffers from this issue
  • Pablo2k5 #24 5 years ago

I have to stick up for EA on this one...

I have been playing the game since day one with NO BUGS.
There were some initial stat probs but they seem to have been addressed.
The game is absolutely awesome and IMO the best Battlefield game, if not my fave online to date (and I've been gaming for 20 years)...

PS - Is it fashionable to knock EA now just for the sake of it? even when people haven't the full facts or have played the game???
