Classic tracks for WipEout Pure

More downloadable content.

WipEout fans can download yet more content for the PSP version today as Sony releases the first "Classic Pack" of reworked tracks from previous titles.

Not to be confused with the Classic tracks included in the retail game, the new Classic Pack gives us another crack at Altima VII (original WipEout) and Odessa Keys (WipEout XL) with a Goteki 45 FX300 ship and matching menu skin. Entertaining stuff, and we've always liked the Classic pixellated collision and weapons-trail effects.

To download the update, players can log on to the game's official website, download the file and use a USB cable to transfer it to the PSP, or you can use the "Download" option within WipEout Pure, which allows you to connect directly to the site through a nearby wireless access point.

And, if you missed it, there are already three Gamma Pack downloads to grab from that site, which add a whole new tournament to the single-player game.

More Classic Packs and other updates are due for WipEout Pure in the coming months and, er, you can even buy a European version when it ships alongside the console in this territory on September 1st.

It's good to see them really go with this and constantly add stuff. Was expecting a couple of token packs and that would be that. Glad to be proved wrong

Odessa Keys is not in this package - only one "new" track.

    Huh? ^^ cuckoo.

Let me elaborate, nobody underestimated Sony, rival fanboys aside... They're a marketing behemoth, they could of released a short plank of wood, painted it black and on the in silver marker wrote "PSP". It would have sold...

Lets not evaluate, re-evaluate, and "Experience"

"SoE's EQ2 is testament to how seriously, without really being an obnoxious corporate fiend, they take certain genres without going over the top"

right.... your an EQ2 player then? explains something.

Did you just bow down to them :S

" /wonders why there is no downloadable content for PS2"

because only 5 people worldwide have the network adapter. And out of them, only 3 have got it working correctly.

anyway, networked PS2 is a joke and not worth the hassle for developers to support it; at least you have the PC->USB option for PSP so that divvies can manage it.

i like the idea of location specific dl content. in japan they had a big dance event/ rave called wire05 and if you took your psp you could dl an extra music track, skin and level for wipeout pure. quite a cool idea.

no downloadable content for PS2 as it has NO STORAGE!

not to mention it has bugger all memory anyway.

no downloadable content for PS2 as it has NO STORAGE!

Makes me wonder why they never released a bigger memory card. It could have been used for exactly this purpose. The potential is there, but they are just sitting on their hands.

The Java system for downloads on the official site is dodgy as hell. I had to get Gamma Pack 3 from www.psphacker.com as the official site didn't work. Just give us a link, thanks Sony.

Best thing about this update's the new (old?) music... The Cold Storage stuff was always as good as the featured artists!!!

Personally I think it's a shame they are insisting on "Classicising" the old tracks, I'd rather have them available in their original form with the original textures etc...

But three cheers for releasing so many updates. As I'm now playing Phantom though it's very irritating having to go through the Decension tournament in Vector, Venom etc just to get the medals.

    Altima VII

Yes! I've been hoping they'll do this one!
  • sonmi451 #14 7 years ago

gare d'europa, megamall, and stanza interpass next please!!!
  • Scimarad #15 7 years ago

Can't say I've ever had any problems downloading from their site.

Seriously WipEout Pure was great when it was released but these downloads just keep making it better and better:-)
  • crashVoodoo #16 7 years ago

is sagarmartha in there anywhere ... that and gare-d'europa were always my favourite tracks. don't have a psp, just curious :)
  • Tommyc352 #17 7 years ago

Jesus, the 32mb card is just too small, why isnt it at least 64mb as standard!

My only complaint about my PSP - they know you will have to go out and buy a larger card, and thus make more money out of u!

    Off to ebay I go...
  • Tommyc352 #18 7 years ago

sagarmartha is already on the classic tourny in the game, not in the new dl content
