MotorStorm update in May

Pit-stop ahoy.

Dirty racer MotorStorm will be pulling into the pits in May for a catalogue of minor fixes.

The most significant change is to the player ranking system, where some people were apparently exploiting a bug and being falsely listed. The cheats. And because of this Sony and Evolution are having to reset the entire leadberboard after the fix to ensure it's fair and accurate.

Online stability is also being looked at, and Game Status is being added list in the lobby so that you join games and race more promptly. There's also going to be an auto-start feature added, fixing a start time for races to cut-down on waiting around in lobbies.

Those of you who are popular will now enjoy a bigger friends list of 50 people, and there's a flurry of other minor bug fixes and tweaks.

MotorStorm launched alongside the PlayStation 3 in Europe. It's a great big muddy mash-up of a racing game where you'll smash and crash and bash and dash.

    Where's the offline spli-screen?
  • JediMasterMalik #2 5 years ago

The status system is a very welcome addition. It's annoying having to check out each race individually to see whether they're racing or not.

hardly any games show that, nice feature that is VERY useful

That bug list reads like one from a PC game. Saves deleted, online ranking reset because it wasn't working, vehicle damage not reset... O_0

    We want:

    - Time trial
    - Best times online ranking (single player)
    - Replays
    - Faster car selection loading screens

I'm guessing that this isn't going to patch online play into my (single player only) Japanese version of the game...

    Humbug.
  • JDub #7 5 years ago

Apparently, they ARE going to add online for the jap version - Though not sure when. Localisation aside, it'll probably be easier from the versioning POV...

I wish I was popular enough for 50.

Is it that hard to also include custom playlists from our own music library! Not everyone wants to listen to c-grade mindless rock, especially in the online lobby.
  • woodnotes #10 5 years ago

This is rediculous. All that should have been delivered in the game in the first place.

    @ disc

Another Aussie here having exactly the same problem. And I agree the inability to play tracks from your own playlist is very annoying, particularly after having the feature for so long on the 360.

"This is rediculous. All that should have been delivered in the game in the first place. "

I agree... I like Motorstorm but the game could have been so much more with some more single player modes and a bit of imagination.
  • Beano #13 5 years ago

    God... another one.

This is the only game for me that was actually much cop on the PS3 at launch, but it looks like it's crown of being the best next-gen off road racer will soon be taken by DIRT, my god the graphics on that game are looking amazing. There's a nice lil preview on IGN, it all looks and sounds very promising.
  • JediMasterMalik #15 5 years ago

And it's a completely different kind of game.

    GRATZ!
  • cannabinemsi #16 5 years ago

why do people compare motorstorm to a rally game? apart from some of the same verhicles are being used, those are 2 completely different types of games. it would be like comparing gran turismo to need for speed, because you can drive fords in both.

as for the update: only good thing is that one sees the status of an online game. i guess the bugfixing is cool too, but since i didn't experience any of those during my 40+ hours that i played the game, i don't care really.

oh and that the boost glitch won't work anymore is nice too.

1080i is not likely to come soon, the RSX doesn't like interlaced signals, for some strange reason.
  • captainrentboy #19 5 years ago

Seemed like a rally type game to me :/ Well it did for the few hours I played on it, a rally game with very few tracks and elastic opponent AI that is.And I thought the AI was supposed to be good on this? I had to play one track a few times because I kept fooking up, and everytime I restarted all of my opponents did exactly the same thing from the startline, even the same opponent crashed into the same post, everytime!
  • JediMasterMalik #20 5 years ago

    You've never played this game.

Either that, or you've never played a rally game.

"1080i is not likely to come soon, the RSX doesn't like interlaced signals, for some strange reason."

Well if that's true then how come Gran Turismo HD, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection, Full Auto 2 and Virtua Tennis 3, among others. all run fine at 1080i then on my HDTV?
  • captainrentboy #24 5 years ago

JMM of course I've played the game, I mean couldn't you tell by my, awful AI and limited tracks comment? You must know what I'm on about. I'm not one of these sad facking fanboys who disses a game that I haven't even tried just 'cause it's on another format. I said the game was the best launch title bar far, jeeez what more do you want?
Anyway the game is far more in the rally racing genre than it is saay the simulator genre.
Ohh another thing to prove I've played it, it's the first racing game that rather impressively takes about 5 seconds to load up each new choice of car when I'm trying to pick one :)
  • 2PeteShakur #25 5 years ago

@ shinblade: well yes cos u cant punch n kick on bikes like mstorm does!

whichs is as close ur gonna get to road rash, which is nice! :p

I'll give you that one captain, but it's not like a rally game AT ALL.
