Masthead working on Interplay's MMO
It's Fallout. We know it's Fallout.
Interplay has announced that it's bringing Bulgarian outfit Masthead Studios in on its "Project V13" MMO - the game that is so obviously Fallout Online.
Project V13's been in development at Interplay since November 2007, and original Fallout designer Chris Taylor is working on it (although fellow vet Jason Anderson has moved on).
Interplay will retain control of development, but will use Masthead's technology, tools and resources. Masthead is currently developing its own MMO, Earthrise.
Earthrise is, coincidentally, a science-fiction RPG set in a post-apocalyptic future wasteland. We saw it at GDC, so look out for our impressions soon.
Interplay sold the single-player rights to Fallout to Bethesda, resulting in the phenomenally successful Fallout 3 - but retained the rights to make online games in the series itself.
And just in case you think we're being a bit presumptuous, note that Interplay has been talking about a Fallout MMO for years.
