Halo 3 playlist tweaks detailed

One update tomorrow, one later.

Our friends at Bungie have been getting excited about some upcoming playlists, which should roll out tomorrow and next Tuesday.

Tomorrow's is planned to coincide with the launch of the Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack on Xbox Live Marketplace, introducing a playlist specifically for the new maps, and incorporating them into general playlists.

As Frank O'Connor told you lot in our live chat on Friday, "A check occurs to see who in a lobby has new maps, and if one or more players don't an 'old' map is automatically selected. An entire playlist devoted to the new maps will ensure that they can be played non-stop, if that's what the player desires. It should be seamless."

What else is in tomorrow's update? Best we quote from lead multiplayer designer Tyson Green, who says "we're reasonably sure that variety updates to almost all of the playlists will be included. This includes some long requested BR Start variants, wider map selection in the Ranked playlists, and a couple of map variants that we're going to try in BTB to start with."

As for the second update, on 18th December, it will include the Team Hardcore playlist, for which Bungie is "trying to stay true" to Halo 2's equivalent, but which is being refined through play-testing.

"In addition, the current plan includes an overhaul for Team Objective. This playlist will henceforth be focused on CTF (both One Flag and Multi Flag variants, as has been frequently requested) and Assault (One Bomb, Multi Bomb, and Neutral Bomb) variants. VIP is out, until we have some time to bang on it and get something we're happy with."

Developers are still missing the one feature that would make my online life perfect - the ability to filter/block entire countries.

The sooner I can apply a blanket block to American gamers the better.

They aren't ALL bad, but by all that is sacred, why do they allow those screaming pre-teens on there - aren't there age ratings for this game in America. Trying to get any sort of team effort together while some vapid screaming fool is trying to deconstruct my eardrums is almost annoying enough to make you want to leave the game.

Thank god for being able to Mute them!

A lot of people on my friendslist are moving over to CoD4 from Halo 3. I wonder which game wil come out on top in the multiplayer stakes.

Thats because Halo 3 is better than COD 4, but COD 4 is good.

I find whiny American kids perfect targets for sarcastic and nasty comments, ensuring that ever other player in the game is also laughing at their high pitched childlike voice and complete lack of team skills. This way I discourage them from ever going online, making everyone's life nicer.

The things I do for you people.

    What's BR short for?
  • Graafke #10 5 years ago

    "What's BR short for?"

    It stands for battlerifle.

Ontopic: The changes in the playlist sounds nice, a good reason to play some multi again.

I honestly prefer games where shooting people kills them.

'Aha! I have an assault rifle! I opened fire before you! You die!

BR start stuff might make it a bit more interesting. I doubt it though.

at least shields give you time to react and not die in an instant which is why i find COD4 frustrating. of course you still get the latency issues but at least you have a fighting chance.

Still no BTB in ranked? Pisspoor.

I agree with that ... "Ooow hit my ankle with your gun - I'm dead!"

I've moved over to COD4 from Halo 3 but there's still a warm fuzzy place in my heart for it.

I wish they'd remove the radar from all regular games though, or at least use the COD4 style where you only appear when you shoot your weapon.

I like to do sneaky style mêlée attacks so the radar spoils it.
