Geometry Wars on Wii, DS

Mission mode adds spice.

Vivendi Sierra Entertainment Games Whatever has finally revealed that Geometry Wars will be heading to Wii and DS, having made such a name for itself since it launched alongside Xbox 360 in November 2005.

Kuju Surrey, rather than the original team at Bizarre Creations, will be developing the game dubbed "Galaxies", which is due for release some time this autumn.

The biggest new addition will be a mission-based campaign, where you'll have to fly around different solar systems wiping out various aliens to win the day. And don't despair, the vintage and absolutely brilliant Retro Evolved gameplay will also feature.

Each platform's unique controls are being strongly focused on, so that you can effortlessly blow things up and pull off "hotshot" moves, whatever they are. You'll also be able to "battle via hot seat, co-op, simultaneous and versus in multiplayer mode". And if you buy both the DS and Wii versions, you'll even be able to use a Wi-Fi link between the pair to unlock bonus content.

Vivendi Sierra Thingymajig is excited about it, Bizarre Creations is pumped about it, and so are we, quite frankly. Head over to the Wii gallery of Geometry Wars Galaxies for a closer look.

Alternatively you can scout out our Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved review to see why we're all so sweaty and awesome pumped.

Sounds like a full game to me. Sounds pretty awesome, even tho I've not played the originals. Do fancy them tho - look as addictive as Lumines for sure.
  • bushwod #5 5 years ago

Could be great fun on the DS.
  • richardiox #6 5 years ago

£39.99 on the High Street for the Wii no doubt. Allow paying full prices for these kind of games; Super Fruit Fall, Bust-a-Move, Kororinpa etc should all be £24.99 at the most.

    Hmmm...
GeoWars with Sluggish Wii controls = sadness
  • AcidSnake #8 5 years ago

Though I did pick up Mario Strikers earlier for just €48...
    Anyone fancy a match?
(Errr...when I've trained a bit and have time)
  • Santino #9 5 years ago

yep i bought mario strikers from my work (blockbuster), it is £29.99 new and with my discount was £24. not bad!!! so hopefully this would be priced VERY reasonably.

@azmol01: No, but I've played games with Wii and the Wiimote lags badly. As GeoW is so intensive there is absolutely no room for lag.
  • SuperZ #11 5 years ago

I've never noticed any lag using the Wiimote or nunchuck. Must have a special one.
  • SpacemanX #12 5 years ago

Nunchuck does not have any lag. Wiimote lag can easily be tested with Wii Play Air hockey. It's pretty noticeable...
  • Der_tolle_Emil #13 5 years ago

Well there little Spaceman, it's a bit not too clever to judge an entire control system by only one measly minigame. Try WarioWare or Eledees and you'll have a pretty hard time looking for any Wiimote lag.

Anyway, I really like Geometry Wars and I can see it work very well on both the Wii and the DS. The DS' screen might be a bit too small but I'm sure they can handle it. I also look forward to the link between the DS and the Wii although frankly I doubt I will buy both versions.

    @barnard666

The Wii and DS do have dual controls. Imagine it a bit, you'd use the nunchuck for ship control and the remote for directional fire, or (in the DS case) the stylus for directional fire and the d-pad for movement.

Sounds like top stuff to me.
  • SpacemanX #15 5 years ago

@Der_tolle_Emil: The lag has been present in every Wii game I've played. In some games it just doesn't bother so much.

Gees.. dont you guys follow the news?

It's going to be on the new wii download channel for non VC games (i.e. remakes and new games)
  • smelly #17 5 years ago

@SpaceMan : Well you've must've played some shite games then.

Yes, badly coded wii games may have a lag, well made games running at 60fps wont have said lag.

Cant see any reason why this would lag. Besides, they have a "classic" option anyhows.

Although - it's being developed by kuju, so i'm not getting my hopes up too high.
  • lasermink #18 5 years ago

Calm down, everybody. Just play it with the classic controller: Problem solved.

"Calm down, everybody. Just play it with the classic controller: Problem solved."

That's presuming there is a problem - outside the minds of the trolls ...
  • Xerx3s #20 5 years ago

I seriously don't see how you could play this without two sticks. That and paying full price for a 4 euro game without insane achievements lol.
  • smelly #21 5 years ago

Gees.. fankids.. you.. need.. to.. talk.. to.. the .. retards.. slow..ly..

There.. Is.. a.. 2.. stick.. mode.. in.. it.. you.. play.. with.. the.. classic.. or.. cube.. pad..

That.. said.. pointing.. at .. screen.. to.. aim.. is .. going .. to.. be.. more.. natural.. anyway... ( same.. as.. using.. mouse)

.. Who.. said.. it .. was.. full.. price?

    .. Who .. said.. no.. online.. leaderboard/achievement .. system?

  • Der_tolle_Emil #22 5 years ago

In the early days people where happy with 4 directional movement and 4 directional fire.

I hope for a nunchuck only control. Stick to move, tilt and Z button to fire. It could work.
  • ph101 #23 5 years ago

sweet a game on the DS i finally will want to buy! Looking forward to it.
  • cyber_nicco #24 5 years ago

Perhaps they will take a perfectly good game, and make it "accessible" via the Wii's controls.

God, why can't you see the thing is evil...
  • pikemon #25 5 years ago

    greatgreatgreat!!!!
  • mostly_harmless #26 5 years ago

Can't say I've noticd any lag on air hockey, in fact quite the opposite; it's almost too quick. I actually find one of the hardest things about that particular minigame is it's sensitive controls; a tiny flick of the wrist (and you're dead baby!), and you've shot from one end of your zone to the other.

I've also read several interviews with developers where they've said that there is no technical reason for any lag in the system (no refs to hand, but one of them was in that Wii suplement that came with Edge last year). Of course, any system is only as strong as it's weakest component, but that seems likely to always be the game itself in this context.

    Smelly's quite condescending, isn't he?
  • smelly #28 5 years ago

    Yes I am.. Well noticed.

Well if people will keep bringing up points which keep being told are wrong, but yet they keep bringing them up anyway...

"oh noes.. we'll be forced to use a new control system"
    "no you wont"
"but the game will play wank with a new control system"
"good job you wont need one then"
"oh noes.. we'll be forced to use a new control system"
    "no you wont"

"oh noes.. It'll be a full priced boxed game"
"no, they said it'll be a downloadable game"
"but it'll be really expensively overpriced as a full priced boxed game"
    "they said it'll be downloadable"
"oh noes.. It'll be a full priced boxed game"
"no, they said it'll be a downloadable game"

And you expect me NOT to be condescending?
