Fallout PS3 Trophy patch released
Also sorts out stuttering, apparently.
As promised, Bethesda Softworks has released a patch to add Trophy support to Fallout 3, and to sort out stuttering during system notifications, while "other issues reported within the community" are also tackled.
The 24MB patch, which takes the game to version 1.10, should automatically download for US and UK gamers, and Bethesda said yesterday that "Updates for other PS3 territories, as well as Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game, are on their way".
The Trophy list is the most obviously appreciable change, although as ever with these it's not retroactive. There are 51 Trophies to hunt down for those who've waited, in a list that mirrors the Xbox 360 Achievements except for the addition of a Platinum Trophy for gamers who gather all the other ones.
As for the stuttering, it's one of a number of issues endured by PS3 owners, as we detailed in our Fallout 3 Triple Format Face-Off last month, although for the best experience we concluded you might prefer to play it on the PC anyway.

Anyway, Fallout 3 on the PS3. Slightly shitty graphics, OTT death scenes aplenty and a sandbox game world that makes my eyelids seem very heavy within a few short minutes of playtime. Which might explain why anything and everything in the game kills me so damn quickly.
I mean, sweet mother of god, if I shoot someone in the head with a sawn-off shotgun at point blank range I expect them to die in a shower of bone and blood, not have just 10% of their health points knocked off.
bethesda are shit.
There, I've said it.
Flame me. Flame on.

Every time I think about picking up Fallout 3, its THAT which sticks in my mind and points me in the direction of a different product instead.

I won't flame you, but lets discuss.
It seems like some of your gripes relate to the typical western RPG model. People playing a Fallout sequel expect certain things, and Bethesda are to some degree obliged to provide those things.
One of the the things is a levelling up system, which in turn means the player is a bit feeble at the start of the game. I agree that it seems a little ridiculous when every new RPG has you fighting rabbits and rats at the start because you are too weak to fight "proper monsters", but that is kind of par for the course.
Equally some people really like the open wandering that a sandbox type RPG gives them. I love the fact that I can ignore the main quest for ages whilst I totter off doing all sorts of unrelated stuff. I completed every guild quest in Oblivion before getting more than 2 steps down the main storyline path (and was glad I did, as the guild quests were for the most part much better than the main story quests).
As I see it, Bethesda are one of the best out there at doing what they do. And what they do are western style RPGs. If you don't like the genre, you aren't really going to like their work. But does that really make them shit?

"Beths on the other hand, dump something out, feebly patch the odd bit and then slap out a statement along the lines of "right thats it, we've stopped supporting the game now""
When, over the last 15 years that Bethesda have been doing their thing, have they acted as you just described?

The 360 hardware sucks. Of the 4 360 swe've had in the place i'm staying, all belonging to different people, 3 of them have RRoDed and one of those was one the supposedly 'improved' Elite models.
Mine is the only one that hasn't died yet and thats because i only use it for 360 exclusives. The PS3 and PC are my platforms of choice for multi-format titles because they're reliable.

Well fair enough on that particular bug, but overall it does sound kind of minor. Post release support for games is always a tough one. It costs money, and any company can only allocate so much in the way of funds for that sort of thing.
I think that generally speaking Bethesda are pretty good for that sort of thing, but perhaps sometimes they could do better.

... And you still can do everything if you're a vampire, I did most of the game as one, didn't get kicked out of one single sidequest (including DLC) because of my condition. And I'm sure you know there is a cure, anyway.

But you see where i'm coming from, its an annoying gripe in something I really like. Also now I'm a bit miffed that I'll never have a chance to do the vampirism quest through to conclusion. Gives me the impression that if stuff like this happens in Oblivion and doesn't get fixed, what will I find out about in Fallout?

Fallout is neck and neck game of the year for me with another title but I have do admit that I fell asleep a few times during play whilst moving over the wastelands.
I woke up once in facing some rocks in a very remote place on the map. I'd managed to walk most of the way without anything happening to me while I was asleep.
The only other game that's made me go to sleep before was Lego Star Wars.

So far, after about eight hours of play, it seems fine. The framerate has *very* occasionally been a little iffy, but not enough to intrude on my play. Texture pop-in seems to happen on every current gen game with high ideals on the 360 and PS3 and again it hasn't impeded the gameplay.
PS3 or 360: on the few titles I've played side by side, I'd say the difference is usually so minimal that I can't tell it's there. I need both systems for work, so for me it's a question of which system I find kinaesthetically nicer, and the PS3 is quieter so it wins on multi-format choices, other people prefer the 360 controller and don't mind the noise so much. It's all personal, and arguments about a dropped frame here and there are a tad pointless.

For the late buyers of PS3 Fallout 3, trophies are great additions, but for those who finished the game, it would be damn annoying to redo the game, as there may be certain trophies that may not be unlocked again when it would have the first time around. So in this case perhaps better not to bother?
Still come new year all the trophies will be mandatory and about time! I m on level 5 at moment and been playing PS3 GTA4 again and its still a good game.

Anyway, one thing that will be missing from the PS3 version is DLC which is a bummer if you enjoyed Fallout 3 and want the story to continue.

Oblivion was (is) a great game, shame Bethesda is really lousy supporting their games. Probably will get Fallout 3 for PC when/if it starts working in Wine.

/Restarts game
PS: Anyone else get frustrated by the experience in the game? Morrowind and Oblivion I get experience for everything I do, here even though I seem to get experience, 3-10 here and there, I always level up round finishing a quest (which give me 300-1000).
And the game seems lots shorter. Good I suppose because other wise I wouldn't be restarting!

Oh lesson learnt with prices... dont buy any games on release day, they are all cheap right now, could have saved a fortune
