EA announces Alice: Madness Returns

American McGee's disturbing interpretation.

EA has confirmed the title of American McGee's new game as Alice: Madness Returns.

It's in development for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and will be released next year.

Alice: Madness Returns picks up 10 years after McGee's first Alice game. We pick-up our heroine after a decade confined to an asylum for the insane. She's off to find out what happened to her toasted family and work out why she's a bit bonkers.

Awesome, I was always disapointed that the animated film version got stuck in production limbo. This fan-made teaser was released a while back and is excellent.

Excellent, and looks stunning too. Let's just hope they keep the same voice of the Cheshire Cat... or just go and hire Jeremy Irons anyway.

Been waiting for this. I hope it doesn't follow the usual third-person, hack n slash, puzzle solving cookie cutter formulae. Not that there is anything wrong with it but its been done so much that these games start feeling the same.

I really enjoyed the first one - and I have only just played it last year for the first time. It has aged but most parts are still brilliant. Looking forward to the sequel and especially the soundtrack. Anybody know if Chris Vrenna will be involved again?

Why does Yanky McGee warrant his name prefixing his games? From what I can gather all he's achieved over the years is designed three half baked games after being the sound designer for a few id games. Maybe it's purely his ludicrous name that means we have to be threatened by the prospect of his games every few years.

That looks seriously naff - moody Alice meets POP? Absolutely inspired, American. And take your name off the front of your games until you actually make a decent one. Pretentious so and so.

I'm off to play Shigeru Miyamoto's Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Oh..and it's about as disturbing as a a Marylin Manson video sponsored by Mountain Dew and Doritos. The really disturbing thing is people find this hackneyed, uninspired drivel promising in any way.

Well done American McGee, your second big game (let's ignore 'american McGees scrapland') and what's this? It's seems to be exactly the same as the first one. Genius.

Btw American, the whole 'evil twisted dark sinister interpretation' thing is sooo 1996. You do realise the original story was already pretty dark and twisted?

But well done on teenagering up classic ideas that aren't yours. Again. You utter hack.

I liked the teaser's style (see the youtube link of Gartt), I was very dissapointed it was a fake one, and thought the real game couldn't possibly live up to this style, but it just did.

"We pick-up our heroine after a decade confined to an asylum for the insane. She's off to find out what happened to her toasted family and work out why she's a bit bonkers. "

Isn't that the plot to the first game? Might as well of called it a remake/boot(what's the difference?) and be done with it.
Enjoyed the original, but was a pretty standard 3rd person action platformer. Art style was cool, but not much beyond that.

I love the whole 'Twisted Fairy Tales' thing, especially Todd McFarlane's Twisted Land Of Oz (this definitely needs to be turned into a movie or game) toy line.
And a PSN release of the first, yes please.

I hope it comes with a HD update of Alice in the same way Riddick did, I never did get to play it.
