COD 4 maps definitely this week
Take Friday off work, says Infinity Ward.
Infinity Ward has said the Xbox 360 Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack will arrive probably late tonight or early tomorrow morning, and suggests preparing your sick day excuses in advance.
"Despite what the Internet might tell you (including some 'official' sources), the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variety map pack has NOT been delayed until the 10th [April]," said Robert Bowling, community friend maker at Infinity Ward. "As of right now we're pushing certification for an on-time release for April 3rd or 4th.
"For those of you asking when you should take off work, I'd take off Friday, as it looks like they should be available late Thursday night / early Friday morning, which means Friday you should be able to play all day."
So, you might need something like a sick day excuse generator. But we wouldn't know where to find one of those.
Confusion over the arrival of the Xbox 360 map pack was stirred up by the Call of Duty 4 Game of the Year website, which spouted 10th April without a care in the world.
Those buying this edition will be given a token to download the fresh maps for free, while everyone else will have to pay 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60). Inside the pack are Broadcast, Creek, Killhouse and Chinatown maps.
Unfortunately PS3 Call of Duty 4 fans will have to wait around three weeks for the same pack, while PC owners are still awaiting confirmation of its existence.
Pop over to our interview with Infinity Ward to see what it had to say about the Variety Map Pack.

Have been looking forward to the fresh update.
800 points though...as much as an XBL arcade game.
Still think the MS pricing is steep.

"Right now plans for the PC version are unannounced but we are working to bring PC users the same content in the future, however logistics are being worked out on how to make that happen."

More likely they're trying to figure out a way of making PC users pay for maps that they got for free last time round without pissing off the entire community.

I do not condone acts of dishonesty and I will be paying for the extra maps legitimately with microsoft gamer points, NOT in the way said above. COD4 is a great game, so good in fact that if ever there were a game worth investing in DLC - this is it.

Yeah, that's what they say, but I reckon they've killed him and buried him in the basement.

I think you need to go and get another paper round or start saving your dinner money you tight ass.
These maps will make things a bit more interesting until GTA comes out...I'm suprised they don't release maps as DLC all of the time, just think how many people are going to buy them! Maybe the Microsoft process of certification is just too much of a long winded process??

do you work for nothing? no?
well dont expect other people to then.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
You say that as if developers in the past never gave out free maps. They aren't working for "nothing" either, they're securing their future base. How much did you pay for the CoD4 patches? Someone obviously worked on them.

its less than £2 a map mate, hardly gonna break the bank when you consider the value any reasonably commited gamer is going to get?

I agree, but 800 pts. is a bit steep for 4 maps. The full game would be unaffordable at those rates.
100 pts. per map should be standard.

wrong on every count.
cod4 - developed by infinity ward, also developed cod2. 2 top class games.
cod5 - being developed by treyarch, the same people who brought you the steaming pile of turd that is cod3. so they dont benefit from people downloading these maps. and even if they did, it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference, cod5 will be shite. you heard it here first kids.

You probably just hated it because it actually required you to put effort into it to be anywhere decent at it...this also spurred the actual need for team communication...even in TDMs. The only communication you are likely to hear in CoD4 public rooms is trash talking.
1 year after its release you could still find plenty of lobbies, for every game type, hardly the sign that a game is a steaming pile of shite.
So yeah, with an extra year+, I'm pretty sure CoD5 will be another excellent game, made all the better for not having people like yourself playing it.
