COD 4 maps definitely this week News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

3 April, 2008

Infinity Ward has said the Xbox 360 Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack will arrive probably late tonight or early tomorrow morning, and suggests preparing your sick day excuses in advance.

"Despite what the Internet might tell you (including some 'official' sources), the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variety map pack has NOT been delayed until the 10th [April]," said Robert Bowling, community friend maker at Infinity Ward. "As of right now we're pushing certification for an on-time release for April 3rd or 4th.

"For those of you asking when you should take off work, I'd take off Friday, as it looks like they should be available late Thursday night / early Friday morning, which means Friday you should be able to play all day."

So, you might need something like a sick day excuse generator. But we wouldn't know where to find one of those.

Confusion over the arrival of the Xbox 360 map pack was stirred up by the Call of Duty 4 Game of the Year website, which spouted 10th April without a care in the world.

Those buying this edition will be given a token to download the fresh maps for free, while everyone else will have to pay 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60). Inside the pack are Broadcast, Creek, Killhouse and Chinatown maps.

Unfortunately PS3 Call of Duty 4 fans will have to wait around three weeks for the same pack, while PC owners are still awaiting confirmation of its existence.

Pop over to our interview with Infinity Ward to see what it had to say about the Variety Map Pack.

Good news!
Have been looking forward to the fresh update.

800 points though...as much as an XBL arcade game.
Still think the MS pricing is steep.

I'm basing the pricing on the stella being from £2.92 (my local) to £3.20 in the centre of Manchester, although some places can charge up to £3.50.

I can afford the price many, many times over, but I wont be buying additional content for an essentially flawed MP experience...i.e. Poor matchmaking, poor (server-side) hit detection, pathetic excuse for host migration, a system which punishes your stats for a host quitting, etc, etc. I'm sure I can survive the weeks until GTA comes out. I have, after all, only played the game for a few hours in the past 2 weeks.

The main problem with ms points is they provide them at 500 and 1000 points. Haven't they worked out that most games are 400 or 800 points. That should be the price point you buy the points. It may be greed to squeeze a little more out of each purchase but TBH it deters more people than they might think.

Logisticslol.

More likely they're trying to figure out a way of making PC users pay for maps that they got for free last time round without pissing off the entire community.

Just to be clear from my post above.

I do not condone acts of dishonesty and I will be paying for the extra maps legitimately with microsoft gamer points, NOT in the way said above. COD4 is a great game, so good in fact that if ever there were a game worth investing in DLC - this is it.

CoD4 is obviously a great game but the price we have to pay for games these days more than qualifies as an investment. This is just 4 maps, they should give them out free as a big thank you to the community for supporting their product.

I think you need to go and get another paper round or start saving your dinner money you tight ass.

These maps will make things a bit more interesting until GTA comes out...I'm suprised they don't release maps as DLC all of the time, just think how many people are going to buy them! Maybe the Microsoft process of certification is just too much of a long winded process??

You say that as if developers in the past never gave out free maps. They aren't working for "nothing" either, they're securing their future base. How much did you pay for the CoD4 patches? Someone obviously worked on them.

All the people moaning about the cost.... if you’re anything like myself or the majority of people on my friends list. Who coincidently have all spent 5+ days "online" killing the rest of the world - £6.80 is a pittance to pay!
