Bad Company 2 viral teases MW2

Video made by FRAGS this time round.

A new Battlefield: Bad Company 2 viral video has poked fun at genre leader Modern Warfare 2.

Infinity Ward released a Friends Against Grenade Spam (FAGS) viral in November 2009. It was swiftly pulled down amid internet backlash.

EA couldn't resist, and has shot a similar public service announcement-style clip (spotted by VG247), "Brought to you by Friends Really Against Grenade Spam."

The video stars CC Sabathia, who's a pitcher for the New York Yankees baseball team.

"I'm here today to talk to you about a random problem affecting all of us: random grenades," he says.

Behind him, a soldier tosses a grenade at a tree. Sabathia confronts him and is told that the soldier thought if he threw enough of "these here hand-bombs" then he was bound to get "a kill or two".

Sabathia puts him straight, telling him that in BFBC2 "grenade span isn't going to prove quite as effective as one might find in competing games of this particular genre".

The soldier doesn't listen and commandeers the camera, only to be shot to pieces by CC in an attack helicopter moments later.

"So remember, everybody - stay away from random grenades and stay safe, the CC way," he says, and flies off into the sunset.

    Yes, DICE, mock MW2 with your terribly buggy and horribly imbalanced game. That'll show IW!

    Seriously, connectivity issues and lack of auto-balance (further fucked by the fact you're punished for switching teams) prevent me from enjoying what really has the potential to outdo MW2.
  • Stifler #2 2 years ago

    Been playing BC2 solidly for the last week - no connections issues to speak of (other than a few during opening weekend).

    And whats horribly imbalanced about it? - Skill still beats kit in my experience.....

    MW2 does not auto-balance either so your point there is lost on me. Perhaps you miss the nannying of the auto aim that MW2 provides vs. the zero assist aiming of BC2?

    I think this deserves an 'oh snap!'
  • Straty88 #4 2 years ago

    You are talking bout Mw2 right? as that's the most unbalanced pile of shit ive played & you sit in the lobby for half hour only to play for five minutes till it needs to host migrate.
  • tossetaz #5 2 years ago

    Never got around to play much MW2 on my Xbox 360 so I can't really say one way or the other about it, however I have played BFBC2 for more than 24 hours online (woo award!) on the PC and while it do have its share of problems (bit of weapon balance and quite a few bugs) it's a fantastic game!

    OT: I found the video quite fun and I do like to see the big publishers going on at each other - though activision seem to be the only one on the receiving end at the moment.

    That was brilliant.
  • RobotRocker #7 2 years ago

    Considering how terrible the original video was, this smokes it by a long shot.

    Come on EA, do a video lampooning the culture of scepticism, pessimism and fear next.
  • ChthonicEcho #8 2 years ago

    @squarejawhero

    Indeed, it's difficult to find people who can read properly. Assuming is so much easier.

    @Stifler

    I've never played MW2 multiplayer. I haven't even so much as implied I prefer MW2 in any way whatsoever. In fact, the singleplayer was more than enough to repulse. As much as I like Bad Company 2, however, it has glaring connectivity issues dire enough to prevent actually playing it, and I rarely am I in a game where both teams have an equal number of players.

    My point wasn't that I like MW2 and BC2 is shit. My point is that DICE should fix their game before boasting about reviews on their blog and mocking their competitor. But, hey, neg away.

    BF is actually really well balanced in my opinion. I think the problem is it can feel imbalanced if you are stuck in a squad of idiots who dont work together, against a team of people trying to play it properly because you end up getting hammered. That's the teams fault though!

    I've had some amazing moments playing this so far :)

    EA and DICE are on a roll.

    Activision has failed to understand the concept of PR, and it's getting hammered. This is a good thing.
  • WizenWolfBain #11 2 years ago

    Completely balanced. As the other guy rightly said, if you're in a squad of retards v a squad of hardcore players who know what they're doing, then prepare to get smoked every time. This isn't COD, it's something better... Move on already.
  • ignatiusjreilly #12 2 years ago

    I'd forgotten about this. MW2 had some low moments in the run-up to release, but this was maybe its lowest. Especially as it came so soon after the 'No Russian' controversy, when they were trying to convince us they were capable of treating serious subjects with maturity and sensitivity...

    SBfistfun "BF is actually really well balanced in my opinion. I think the problem is it can feel imbalanced if you are stuck in a squad of idiots"

    Would have to totally agree with you on this one. I am totally loving this game had a real few classic games with squads that stayed together and healed / revived just so much fun and this on the PS3 with the real issue of few players with mics. If you get stuck with a few lone wolves you know you dont stand a chance of winning the round.

    I think this is the one strong point over MW2, which IMO does not encourage team work in any sense but that doesnt make it a bad game just different. However i have to say its not one i enjoy.........

    The only thing worse than MW2 fanboys? BC2 fanboys.

    This thread makes me sad.
  • JahB #15 2 years ago

    @SBFistfun

    the game is balanced to perfection (as is relatively common with DICE), but i think he's referring to the team balances, which are definitely not working as designed. 90% of the games i play have more players on one team than the other, and while it's no game breaker, it is seriously annoying at times, as are the continuous disconnects and stats resets.

    pretty sure there'll be a patch to fix this stuff soon though, DICE have always been very good when it comes to taking care of their player base.

    Indeed. +1 for actually thinking straight.

    Jeez, so much hate. They are just games people. I own both MW2 and BFBC2. I play and enjoy both. For me they fulfil different gaming needs. If I'm settling down for a good long session and want some good teamplay with a few of my buddys, BFBC2 is clearly the way to go. Good times. On the other hand, if you dont have as much time on your hands, or if you cant be bothered with anything too tactical, MW2 gives you a good frantic shot of FPS fun. Also good times. Both have their faults, I'm not claiming they don't, but both are also great games. We should just be happy that we are so spoiled for choice in our hobby these days. Good times!!!!

  • darleysam #20 2 years ago

    Dipped into the multi last night for the first time.. suffice to say I am going back in with a vengeance tonight. Fun as all dickens, I'll tell you what.
  • Shikasama #21 2 years ago

    Ohhhhh.

    I want this version of BFBC2. Apprantly it doesn't have 40mm Grenade Launchers.
  • Slipstream #22 2 years ago

    Hmm, I really ought to try Battlefield 2...
  • dsmx #23 2 years ago

    Why do people keep bitching about the 40mm grenade launchers, they are the only reason to play assault. If the 40mm gets nerfed like all you whiners seem to want then no-one will play assault and everyone will go medic with the m60 and magnum ammo.
  • CaptainQuint #24 2 years ago

    I want to see BFBC2 knock MW2 off the live top spot and then, further down the line, I want to see Halo Reach's coronation.
  • Deckard1 #25 2 years ago

    This may be a bit off topic here, but does anybody know where I can buy air jordan shoes? I thought this would be the best place to ask - thanks in advance.

    Oh and be quiet ChthonicEcho. I've put in over 30 hours on the game (360), and rarely see any connectivity issues, and the game is the most balanced online shooter I've played. It just sounds like you're not very good it.
  • chrisola #26 2 years ago

    i play on 360 and have heard about 2 people on voice comms, it's strange -- i even spent an entire rush map as the gunner on a Bradley (scored about 15k points, the driver had about the same!) and i think we both used comms once, when another player stole the drivers seat as he was repairing the tank :p

    I agree about the team balance, sometimes you feel like there are no other players, but it's mainly when the other side is organised. The worst is attacking something with a medic in your squad, who doesn't revive you....when he died i would pick up his kit, revive him, and change back, but still nope, he wouldn't use the revive skill at all on me.

    I need to add some EG peeps as friends for some organised squads
  • XdarXideX #27 2 years ago

    @ChthonicEcho - Both BFBC2 and MW2 seem like fine games to me... I've not come across any bugs on BC2 yet, only connectivity issues early on from the amount of online attention it's been getting. I'm guessing you play on PS3 seeing as your gamertag has 2 games and no score on it...
  • ChthonicEcho #28 2 years ago

    @XdarXideX

    Assumption-Man strikes again! Good guess, but no, I do not even own a PS3. My suggestion? Don't trust gamertags, and don't assume people use the same names everywhere. Will save you from a lot of awkwardness in the future.

    And server overload resulted only in a small selection of connectivity issues, of which there are many. DICE is infamous for writing poor net. code. Anyone not drowning in bias and has played more than one of their BF games knows this.

    @Deckard1

    I wish I could argue with you, but I haven't even managed to play multiplayer enough to know whether I am any skilful at it. Oh, and do try to read - I was complaining about lack of team auto-balance, not the balancing of the game itself.

    I'd try to elaborate further and explain I am not bashing the game itself in any shape or form, but merely stating that DICE should eliminate glaring issues first, then satirise competitors second, but raging fanboys will remain what they are - put their favourite game and any ounce of negativity in the same sentence, and they'll assume the worst. This is almost as embarassing as Halo comment sections.

    Oh, well.

    FRAGS I seriously hope the Infinity Ward PR team are face palming right now for not thinking of that.
  • Shikasama #31 2 years ago

    It's quite sad to see people in this comments section who this time last week were complaining about the state of the servers try and say there have been no connectivity issues. Has it got better? Yes. Did it render the game near useless in it's first week? Yes.

    Why is it that these days in order to like something you have to love it 100%. it is possible to enjoy something and still recognise that it has flaws. BC2, believe it or not, is not a perfect game and has some quite obvious issues that actually come up repeatedly in the forum thread.
  • Thedni #32 2 years ago

    Good stuff! I really enjoyed the spoof trailers they did for the previous game too.

    Edit: Freaking laptop keyboard!

    "This is almost as embarassing [sic] as Halo comment sections"

    Just to clarify, you are saying that just because some people here are disagreeing with you, even though they have multiple hours of play time (over 18 hrs myself and only had connection problems once) then they are fanboys?
  • fknetwork #34 2 years ago

    Guys (and girls) I keep meaning to ask, is there a EG clan or something for BC2? would love to meet other members here online and have a few games!
  • Roland_on_the_Ropes #35 2 years ago

    After reading all the comments on BFBC2 I decided to buy it and........DIDN'T LIKE IT. Was stuck in the lobby for an age (it seems to me that you have to try the single campaign before you are allowed into the mp) and when I finally got in I found there was a disconnect between my actions and my guy on the screen. Maybe I am too used to being babied by the auto-aim on MW2 but seriously I couldn't buy a kill for 20 minutes (even snuck up on a guy and emptied a clip into a guys head - he turned around and shot me dead). I might give it another try this weekend but to be honest am not really looking forward to it....
  • kinky_mong #36 2 years ago

    I'm loving Bad Company 2, but as funny as the video is, random grenades are actually incredibly effective if you're playing assault. Got tons of kills with them in the EG games last night.
