PSN ad uses the font from Xbox One-exclusive Sunset Overdrive

Whoops!

A new PlayStation Network ad uses what is unmistakably the font from the upcoming Xbox One-exclusive action game Sunset Overdrive.

Sunset Overdrive's official Twitter account pointed out the cribbing/mistake/possible friendly competitor nod in the ad - picture below - with the following tweet: "Hey @Playstation. Nice font. Glad you guys are excited for @SunsetOverdrive too."

It IS a pretty sweet looking ad though.

Just to be clear, the font was made available to the public by Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games. You can download it here. "The font is called 'Overdrive Sunset' was made based off our original logo, and is public/free w/ our blessing," the developer later clarified.

We've reached out to Sony to gain clarification on whether this was intentional and how it feels about this potential blunder ranging from "no big whoop" to "fire whoever whipped this up." We'll update should we hear back.

Perhaps this isn't a catastrophe though, as it resulted in Sony's competitor advertising its sale - which includes 30 per cent off the PS3-exclusive Demon's Souls. Maybe this is more of a happy accident then?

For comparison's sake, here's the Sunset Overdrive box art. Notice the very distinctive lettering.
